[Verse 1] Six-fifteen, off the ramp, coffee's cold in my hand Paper's creased, brake lights gleam, stuck here in this traffic jam Shoulder to shoulder, we don't move, just stalled in the morning sun Box truck jackknifed, what a view, my whole darn day's undone Tow man's low, cop takes notes, ambulance is sideways jammed Blazer guy on his car phone gloats, while a mom just stares, slammed Her kid kicks crackers, makes a fuss, this day is already gone Just us stuck here, what the fuss? Waiting for the coming dawn [Solo] [Chorus] (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yeah, still practicing patience! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Only my jaw, honestly! (Caller) Windows down! (Response) Yep, now we can hear everybody! (Caller) We stuck stuck! (Response) Real committed to it! (Caller) Coffee's cold! (Response) Mine's basically tire water! (Caller) You got gas? (Response) Enough to complain another hour! (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yeah, still practicing patience! [Woman's voice] (Caller) You hear that? (Response) Yeah, that's Barry narrating again! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Only my jaw, honestly! [Solo] [Verse 2] Sedan coughed and then it quit, kid with a straw, what a sight Exit 3, where we all sit, blue glow in the morning light Green sign blinks, window crack, horn blast from a work truck's dash News van jammed, no turning back, concrete wall, a sudden crash Five lanes locked, no one moves, just the hum of engines low Woman behind me reads and grooves, one hand on the wheel, you know Pickup ahead, mattress drags, straps snap, oh what a mess Heat is rising, patience sags, feeling all this daily stress [Solo] [Chorus] (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yeah, I know, right? (Caller) You moving? (Response) Not unless the road gets bored! (Caller) Windows down! (Response) Yeah, let the bugs apply too! [Woman's voice] (Caller) Who's got snacks? (Response) Check your console! (Caller) We stuck stuck! (Response) Somebody call it a plaza! (Caller) Coffee's cold! (Response) Mine tastes like the cup itself! (Caller) You got gas? (Response) Enough to stay mad a while! (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yeah, I know, right! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Not unless the road gets bored! [Solo] [Verse 3] Seven-thirty, sun hits hard, hot dash, vinyl baked and done No shade now in this junkyard, nowhere left for me to run Tow guy drifted, radio low, said, [Woman's voice] “One lane back. Slow.” Blazer man climbed in, jaw tight, tugged collar, putting on a show Kid counted cars, pointed scratches, named trucks as they idled by I stepped out, legs stiff, catches, met woman with a cooler nigh Pears she offered, cool and plain, said, [Woman's voice] “Want one?” with a smile Handed fruit, eased the pain, staying stuck here for a while [Solo] [Chorus] (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yep, still here! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Man, not a chance! (Caller) Windows down! (Response) Let the bugs in! (Caller) Ain't moving! (Response) Yeah, I can see that! [Woman's voice] (Caller) Hey, lift up! (Response) Shake it out! (Caller) Coffee's cold! (Response) Mine's a brick by now! (Caller) You got gas? (Response) Enough to sit and wait! (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yep, still here! (Caller) Ain't moving! (Response) Yeah, I can see that! [Solo] [Bridge] Then a guy in a pickup clicked a song on Speakers cracked the cab, blew the dust right on A few knuckles on glass, a beat on the dash And the whole dead line started breathing at last The woman with the cooler sang the low part A kid by the shoulder kept time with his cart For one small minute, nobody had to stare At the twisted guardrail, the grease, or the heat in the air [Guitar Solo] Rubber and rebar, bent clean through Cheap radio hum and a truck-bed tune No big relief, no curtain-call grace Just a little noise in a hard-held place [Solo] [Verse 4] Later, breeze from the west, empty receipt, skate on my chest Tow truck pulled the wreck, put us to the test, line moved, we progressed Inch by inch, out of day, brake eased, space checked once or twice Minivan guy waved, [Man's voice] “All right.” Kid in back waved, that was nice Enough, we split, asphalt opened, moved, rolled out, no groove in sight Coffee dead, patience thinned, I laughed at this mess, bathed in the fading light [Solo] [Final Chorus] (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yep, still here! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Nope, not even a little! (Caller) Windows down! (Response) Yeah, let the noise in! (Caller) Ain't moving! (Response) Might as well call it parked! (Caller) Coffee's cold! (Response) Mine's a brick by now! [Woman's voice] (Caller) Come on, sing! (Response) We made it through! (Caller) You got gas? (Response) Enough to sit and wait! (Caller) Six-fifteen! (Response) Yep, still here! (Caller) You moving? (Response) Nope, not even a little!
