Fact or fiction Truth or Lie What will it be today [Instrumental] Isn't it curious what passes for truth and honesty these days Time was you could label a lie, and Call out a liar Without fear of a lawsuit, or An investigation by the DOJ I’ve prided myself on being honest Too honest some would say With the occasional exaggeration If only to make a point It’s not in my nature to lie But, I’ve learned there are times To hold back the truth When the truth will hurt another There are those who lie for sport Others who lie for gain It’s the ones who lie to hurt I fear Those who relish causing pain Some view truth and lie as Opposite sides of the same coin I don’t see it that way I don’t flip a coin and let it decide Whether it’s fact or fiction today Lying is a choice As are cheating, deceit, fraud, and betrayal Choices a person makes When the truth doesn’t matter What can we do when we live in a world When our leaders lie every day When we can’t trust what we are told Because they never tell the same story twice, And they lie either way A Lie within a lie, wrapped in a lie Where will it end When will it end, and How will we know [slow tempo - clear, but whispered vocal] Riddle me this If a habitual liar says "I'm not lying, They are the ones lying, not me." [clear, but whispered vocal] What are we to believe. Can both statements be true. I'll leave that up to you.
