[INTRO — SPOKEN] Before Deuteronomy twenty-eight… Before the curses… Before the scattering… There was another chapter. Another king. Another land. Another generation. You know the story of Moses… But do you know those were his people? Our forefathers. Listen. [VERSE ONE] Go back further than the pain, before the chains were on their hands, Jacob’s children made their journey down into another land. Joseph already in Egypt, famine spreading far and wide, Food was running out in Canaan, so the family went inside. They weren’t brought there first as slaves, that’s important—get it right. They were given room to settle, land where families could survive. Generations started growing, Israel multiplying strong, Years passed after Joseph’s lifetime, then another king came on. He ain’t looking at their history. He don’t care what Joseph did. Looking at a growing people, looking at their wives and kids. Said, “They’re getting far too many.” Fear was growing in his mind. So the people once accepted met a ruler of another kind. That’s the history of your fathers. That’s the story in the Word. Before you tell me where we’re going, know the history that occurred. [CHORUS] We always trust in the Most High, Even when the road gets hard, we keep our heads high. Through the tears, through the years, through the long nights, We always trust in the Most High. We always trust in the Most High, When everything around us says we won’t rise. We remember the covenant, get our hearts right. We always trust in the Most High. [VERSE TWO] Then the labor became bitter, taskmasters upon their backs. Building cities under Pharaoh, making bricks and stacking stacks. Mud and straw. Sun above ‘em. Work became another chain. Pharaoh thought oppression somehow would erase the people’s name. But the harder that he pressed ‘em, more the families multiplied. That’s when Pharaoh went from labor to commanding children die. Think about it. Mothers looking at their babies, knowing what the king decreed. Government demanding death because a ruler feared their seed. Then a child came through the water. Moses living through the threat. Raised inside the house of Pharaoh, but his people weren’t forgotten yet. Years would pass before his calling. He would leave and then return. Most High told him, “Go to Pharaoh.” Now the king was gonna learn. This wasn’t Moses showing power. This wasn’t Moses being God. Moses carried the commandment. The Most High held the rod. [BRIDGE — DRUMS DROP OUT] Before the wilderness… Egypt. Before Sinai… Egypt. Before the covenant warnings spoken to another generation… Egypt. A people cried. And the Most High heard them. Remember that. [VERSE THREE] Pharaoh wouldn’t let ’em leave, so the judgments hit the land. One by one the kingdom learned there was a higher command. Not the power of a Pharaoh. Not the power of a throne. Most High showed an earthly ruler he was never ruling alone. Then the night finally came, families ready at the door. Generation born in bondage wouldn’t live that way no more. Out of Egypt came a nation, walking toward another life. But deliverance from your enemy don’t remove the inward fight. That’s the lesson. You can leave the house of bondage, still have Egypt in your mind. Still complain about the journey. Still start looking back behind. Still forget who broke the chains. Still forget who made the way. Still forget the One who saved you when another generation came. That’s why history is important. That’s why children need to know. If you don’t remember yesterday, how you know which way to go? Moses stood before our fathers. They saw wonders with their eyes. But the story wasn’t finished. There were choices still to come. There were laws still to receive. There were promises and warnings for the people who believed. And eventually… Deuteronomy twenty-eight. Blessings on one side. Curses on the other. Choose. [FINAL CHORUS — FULL PRODUCTION] WE ALWAYS TRUST IN THE MOST HIGH. Even when the road gets hard, we keep our heads high. Through the tears, through the years, through the long nights, We always trust in the Most High. WE ALWAYS TRUST IN THE MOST HIGH. When everything around us says we won’t rise. We remember the covenant, get our hearts right. We always trust… We always trust… We always trust… IN THE MOST HIGH. [OUTRO — SPOKEN] Egypt wasn’t the end of the story. It was a chapter. Deliverance wasn’t the end either. Because after the Most High brings a people out… the question becomes… Will they listen to Him when they’re free?
