Sidewalk Umbrella

[Verse 1] I found your umbrella Bent by the door Blue as a bruise With a plastic flower on top You left it in the rush By the corner store Now it leans in my hand Like it knows your walk [Pre-Chorus] I turned it over slow Read the tag inside Your tiny loop of thread Still tied up tight If you come back tonight I’ll hold it high And wave you down In the pouring sky [Chorus] Come back for it Come back for it Blue little sign in my hand Come back for it Come back for it I kept it safe as I can If you want this back You know where I’ll stand Come back for it Come back for it [Verse 2] The porch light flickers on Across the wet front walk Your boots on the step Would say more than words I know this kind of thing Can be a small one But small things stay Like a song you heard [Pre-Chorus] I turned it over slow Read the tag inside Your tiny loop of thread Still tied up tight If you come back tonight I’ll hold it high And wave you down In the pouring sky [Chorus] Come back for it Come back for it Blue little sign in my hand Come back for it Come back for it I kept it safe as I can If you want this back You know where I’ll stand Come back for it Come back for it [Bridge] Maybe you’re two blocks over Buying gum and time Maybe you forgot my face But you’ll know that blue I’ll leave it by the rail Where the rain won’t touch One more chance to pass by One more chance for us [Final Chorus] Come back for it Come back for it Blue little sign in my hand Come back for it Come back for it I kept it safe as I can If you want this back You know where I’ll stand Come back for it Come back for it
