Read more about Arty the Artist after the lyrics below. ++++ ++++ ++++ ++++ ++++ [Intro] [Verse] Chalk drawing on the sidewalk Chalk drawing on the sidewalk A hero from a child's mind Nearby a battle raged Blew a hole through space and time A monster from another world Stepped through the closing breach Devoured all in its path Everything in its reach [Verse] Emotions flared, children screamed Everyone running, fast as they can One little girl trapped in a corner Found herself with no escape plan Screaming for help, she found sudden hope Chalk lines rippled with liquid skin The monster approached, ready to snack From the sidewalk rose one to defend [Chorus] He's the Artist, coloring the world Need a hand? He'll paint you one The sky above is all a-swirled Want some clouds? A brighter sun? [Instrumental] [Verse] With paintbrush the Artist drew For the girl a circle of stone The monster raged, thrashing claws The girl stayed safe below the dome Begone, foul one, was Arty's command But the monster's mind was too foreign It failed to understand the man Arty had to go all in [Verse] With speed the Artist painted Red wounds on monstrous skin He drew and drew, the monster fell The Artist found his way in No words formed in his mind But images of another world He painted a door and pulled the latch Boosted by the little girl [Chorus] He's the Artist, coloring the world Need a hand? He'll paint you one The sky above is all a-swirled Want some clouds? A brighter sun? [Post-Chorus] Arty takes special requests Everyone smile, you're so blessed [Instrumental] [Bridge] No food he needs No drink or sleep Uses love and hate To fill his palette Can't read your thoughts Just feels your feels A mental punch to the guts Can make anyone kneel [Chorus] He's the Artist, coloring the world Need a hand? He'll paint you one The sky above is all a-swirled Want some clouds? A brighter sun? [Outro] He isn't human Not an angel from above So heed this warning Don't fall in love ++++ ++++ ++++ ++++ ++++ Arty the Artist started his existence as a subject of a child's chalk drawing on a sidewalk at an art festival. A nearby between supers opened a temporary space-warp-hole at the festival, and an alien monster came through, frightening all the normal peeps in attendance. Their collective fear stirred latent energies that imbued the chalk drawing, bringing it to life to defend against the alien. Springing up from the sidewalk, a newborn yet fully adult Arty the Artist found himself facing a powerful enemy. The Artist only had paintbrushes at his disposal, and he used them to paint defensive structures between the monster and the people. Unable to communicate with the alien or get it to calm down, Art painted wounds on it, inflicting harm to it. Once the creature was subdued, Arty found he could sort of mentally communicate with it over an empathic link; he didn't understand the alien's conversation explicitly, but got mental images, enough that he could paint a doorway back to the alien's home world, after which he ushered the alien through. After the alien monster was defeated, The Artist remained alive. He has no need for food, water, or sleep. He is an empath, able to communicate with any living thing empathically, though the precise meaning of anything Arty "hears" is not always clear. The closer he forms a relationship with a person, the easier it is for Arty to understand what the person is trying to convey. The Artist can sense nearby empathic activity, and can sometimes "eavesdrop" or "intrude" on the empathic link, depending on the strength of the link's defenses. If he can create a sufficient connection, he can deliver a powerful "psychic punch to the gut" that can bring an opponent to their knees. The Artist's main superpower is his ability to alter reality with his paintbrushes. He doesn't paint with normal paints, but with the emotions of those in the vicinity. Different emotions offer him different colors, which in turn allow him to create certain structures or items. He can't create a complete living entity from scratch, despite he himself being born from artwork. But he can alter the living, drawing wounds to do harm, painting wounds away to help heal, reconstructing lost limbs, etc. Reconstruction takes a lot of energy, success requiring a crowd of people all wanting it to happen. He can easily draw small objects of convenience, such as pencils or sunglasses, and doesn't need much emotional support for this. To use his paintbrushes, Arty does need at least one other person near him, providing him with an emotional source. He can't serve as an emotional source for himself, as his emotions aren't human. He is able to form relationships with humans, but it's questionable as to whether he can ever learn to love.
