[Intro: female captain; crooked fiddle pickup over two boot stomps] Trip Line, turn that fiddle loose; Bridget's aboard with a riddle for you! [Verse 1: captain; loping guitar, mandolin and upright bass] The Porchlight Pirates had a map on their knees, And a WEB in the rigging caught the make-believe breeze. Bridget tipped her captain's hat: "A riddle for tonight: There's booty on this vessel, hidden plain in sight!" The Cardboard Kraken cried, "Who holds the scale?" "Weigh your own toffees!" she called from the rail. [Chorus: captain and full adult crew; broad melody, stomps and concertina] Bridget's got the booty, keep the lantern low! Where's she gone and stowed it? Only Bridget knows! X marks the spot when she says so; She takes it all with her, wherever we go! [Verse 2: captain; sly fiddle answers between lines] "I fixed your door," said the mate with a bow; "Then fix me a chorus," she called from the prow. We guessed at the cupboards, the barrels and chest; She leaned on the wheel, let the whole crew guess. She swung her long coat, gave the parchment a spin; "That X is the biscuit tin. Try it again!" [Chorus: full adult crew; same tune, stronger handclaps] Bridget's got the booty, keep the lantern low! Where's she gone and stowed it? Only Bridget knows! X marks the spot when she says so; She takes it all with her, wherever we go! [Bridge: crew calls, captain answers; bass and boot stomps only] "Your usual?" "A course of my own! Come empty-handed; leave the crowbars home!" "Still hungry?" "For a chorus! Give the captain her due!" She tapped her boot twice, and the whole damn crew knew. [Final Chorus: captain and full crew; fiddle and concertina in harmony] Bridget's got the booty, keep the lantern low! Where's she gone and stowed it? Only Bridget knows! X marks the spot when she says so; She takes it all with her, wherever we go! [Outro: crew, then captain alone; band stops for the punchline] Home Port! Stow the charts; sing the whole night long! "I've had it with me all along!"
