[INTRO — FROM ABOVE] [distant bass / stone shifting] We see the whole room from up here. The lights. The smoke. The bodies moving underneath. They think nobody's watching. [beat] Good. [VERSE 1 — THE WATCHERS] We sit above the dance floor, perched upon the stone, watching creatures lose themselves like this place is home. Fairies in the rafters. Witches by the wall. Wisps climbing speakers like they're waiting for a fall. Goblin on the stage. Shadow underneath. Something in the ceiling has too many fucking teeth. Nobody looks up. [pause] Excellent. [CHORUS — HEAVY / STOMPING] WE SEE YOU. WE SEE EVERYTHING. From the roof to the floor, from the walls to the door. You can dance. You can drink. You can disappear. But if you're causing trouble— WE'LL KNOW. WE SEE YOU. WE SEE EVERYTHING. [VERSE 2 — WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO] Minotaur guards the doorway. We watch from above. He decides who gets through. We see who breaks the rules. We watch the portals opening. We watch the creatures come. We count who's through the doorway. We count who's gone. We watch the floorboards shaking. We watch the shadows move. We watch the things that shouldn't be here— and decide if they're approved. We catch the ones climbing where they shouldn't climb. We pull the drunk ones backwards from the edge sometimes. We break up little fights. We close forbidden doors. We put the chairs back where they were before. [MINOTAUR SUBSECTION — GARGOYLE GRUMBLING] [stone wing flap / irritated scrape] Trouble I've seen him before. Always the same sort. Drinks too much. Touches things. Looks suspicious. I'd throw him out. Apparently that's not enough. Apparently he has to actually do something. [grumble] Fine. I'll wait. [beat] The Minotaur says he's fine. The Minotaur says they're all fine. The Minotaur says: "They haven't done anything." [long irritated pause] Yet. [stone claws scrape] One day I'm going to get to throw someone out. One day. [beat] Probably not tonight. [VERSE 3 — DIFFERENT GARGOYLES] Some of us watch the entrance. Some watch the floor. Some watch the portals. Some watch the door. One watches the ceiling. One watches the crowd. One watches the witches when they're getting too loud. One watches the trolls. [pause] Nobody knows why. He's supposed to watch the eastern wall. He hasn't moved at all. We know where he is. He's underground, watching them collect their haul. [CHORUS] WE SEE YOU. WE SEE EVERYTHING. Every shadow. Every light. Every creature through the night. You think the dark will hide you. It won't. WE SEE YOU. [VERSE 4 — WHAT THEY'VE SEEN] We've seen things come through that doorway that shouldn't exist. We've seen creatures walk inside and never walk back out. We've watched the fog come crawling through the floor. We've watched the moon fall through the ceiling. We've watched the walls breathe. [beat] We didn't move. We've been here longer than most of you remember. We've watched this building change its shape. We've watched worlds touch worlds. We've watched things that should have stayed apart— meet. [bass begins building] And every century— they come back. [BUILD — GARGOYLE CHANT] One hundred years. One night. One door. One light. One hundred years. One night. WE KEEP WATCH. [MASSIVE DROP] WE SEE YOU. WE SEE EVERYTHING. [FINAL CHORUS — HUGE] WE SEE YOU. WE SEE EVERYTHING. From the roof to the floor. From the tunnels to the door. You can dance. You can drink. You can lose your mind. Just remember— WE'RE ABOVE YOU. [massive bass hit] WE SEE YOU. [silence] WE ALWAYS HAVE. [OUTRO — GARGOYLE ON THE WALL] [distant rave continues] Gargoyle: "That one's trouble." Minotaur: "What did they do?" Gargoyle: "...wore a hat." Minotaur: "leave them alone." Gargoyle: "...should be illegal" [stone wing flap]
