Finbar at the Fork

[Verse 1] We walked that long path Hand in hand Grass on both sides Like a green sea The sky kept leaning Toward the end Your thumb on my knuckles Said stay with me [Pre-Chorus] Then the ground split open A choice in the dust One road for you One road for us My grip went loose Your fingers slipped I heard my own breath Catch in my ribs [Chorus] Finbar, come with me Come with me now Finbar, come with me Don’t leave me here somehow You looked back once With that soft sad smile Finbar, come with me Stay a while [Verse 2] I took the left line You took the right Same long horizon Two different lives The grass stayed quiet The wind stayed cold I called your name And it echoed old Your face was small In the widening space Like a prayer I held Then lost its place [Pre-Chorus] Then the ground split open A choice in the dust One road for you One road for us My grip went loose Your fingers slipped I heard my own breath Catch in my ribs [Chorus] Finbar, come with me Come with me now Finbar, come with me Don’t leave me here somehow You looked back once With that soft sad smile Finbar, come with me Stay a while [Bridge] I wanted to run I wanted to call Wanted to tear down That cruel divide But your eyes said sorry Without a sound And the whole wide field Went empty around [Final Chorus] Finbar, come with me Come with me now Finbar, come with me Don’t leave me here somehow You looked back once With that soft sad smile Finbar, come with me Stay a while Finbar, come with me I’m still there in the sky Finbar, come with me Then you were goodbye
