Intro You're open heart is my goal There’s a fire in our blood There’s a truth that won’t let go Still standing, fighting, through the mud God bless the rebel soul Verse 1 In a single declaration Made us this once great nation A promise of life, liberty, and rights But two hundred fifty years of trying Through the truth and through the lying We still wrestle darkness from the light Through the battles, through the scars Through the stripes and through the stars We’ve been shaken, still we grow When justice stands with mercy And faith still makes us worthy That’s the peace free men should know Pre-Chorus Law and order bring us peace But sleeping hearts grow cold Complacency steals the joy Freedom needs brave souls Chorus They called the Lord a rebel For the truth He came to show Our forebears stood for freedom Where the seeds of courage grow This here one nation under God Still the dream we’re meant to hold With faith and fire in our hearts God bless the rebel soul Verse 2 There’s a generation searching For a truth they’ve never known Raised on noise and broken mirrors Trying to find their way back home Told the past was only ashes And the future stands alone But the flag still has a heartbeat And the Word still makes us whole There is honor in the old ways There is fire in self-control Take your place among the faithful Let God lead what you uphold Chorus They called the Lord a rebel For the truth He came to show Our forebears stood for freedom Where the seeds of courage grow This here one nation under God Still the dream we’re meant to hold With faith and fire in our hearts God bless the rebel soul Outro For the young, the brave, the old For the hearts still marching home while the flag still flies and the church bells toll Please God, bless our rebel souls
