I Still Fight the Fear

V6

[Verse 1] The battle's finally over, or at least that's what they say, The appointments got less frequent, and the supplies got packed away. Everybody thinks I'm lucky, says I got my second chance, But they don't see me hesitate every time life makes new plans. I still remember waiting for results that took too long, Learning how to smile when everything felt wrong. Now every little ache can send my mind back through the years, Right back to those long nights filled with prayers and fear. [Chorus] I won the battle, but I still fight the fear, Still waiting for the thunder every time the sky turns weird. Still holding my breath when the phone lights up at night, Like one more call could pull me back into that fight. Everybody says, "You're here now, let it go," But they weren't there when everything I knew was hanging by a rope. Yeah, I'm alive, but that don't mean the danger disappeared. I won the battle... But I still fight the fear. [Verse 2] Some days I catch my reflection and I almost know her face, Then I remember all the pieces that illness rearranged. The girl I was before this thought forever was a plan, Now I wake up every morning doing the best I can. I laugh with friends, I make my plans, I try to carry on, But part of me still waits for everything to go wrong. It's hard explaining to people who never stood where I've stood, How you can be getting better and still not feel completely good. [Bridge] Sometimes I miss the woman Who trusted her own skin, Who didn't know how quickly Life could turn and change again. I don't want sympathy. I don't want applause. I just want one day Without looking for a cause. Without expecting the worst. Without preparing for bad news. Without feeling my heart race Every time there's something to lose. [Chorus] I'm standing in the open, but the fear still grips my spine, Trying to feel like living isn't walking a thin line. Some battles don't end when the doctors say you're done, Some shadows keep on chasing you long after you've won. I carry every "what if," every nightmare, every tear, Every scar a reminder of the years. The world sees a survivor standing here. I made it through the darkness. I survived the hardest years. But I'm still fighting fear. [Outro] Every morning I wake up. Every morning I choose. I choose hope. I choose tomorrow. I choose to keep going. And maybe that's what healing really is. Not winning. Not forgetting. Just refusing to let fear tell the rest of your story. Fear ain't gonna win.
