Once upon a time there was a young boy Adam was his name and a chimney would be his Fame One dusty windy day his mother came to say Adam, take our family cow to market and get a good price some gold coin would be nice we have nothing to eat in this drought filled land so you must be a man please understand we need money, honey So sad as it is We must sell Ole Bess Adam took the rope in his hand and led Ole Bess down the path He travelled the dry land while his head did the math 3 gold coins or four? What does a good cow go for? Before he got to town he met a woman dressed in brown She stood at the fork in the road and she had a pet toad She offered him three magical tools Real Magic, not for fools He could use them everyday and the people would pay and pay Everyone has a chimney everybody needs a sweep C'mon kid, don't be cheap Hmmmmm Adam thought long Adam thought hard Momma wants gold but he was feeling bold So he left the cow at the fork and headed home like a Dork Momma cried when she saw what he had done and going to bed without supper would not be fun but the tools were sure pretty and Adam thought it a pity that they should stay still and maybe the magic will, still work and save the day So all work and no play Adam cleaned the family flue the tools knew just what to do the scraper scraped the rod pushed through the brush swept the whole night through When Adam and Momma awoke they thought it was a joke they made a morning fire in the fireplace but the chimney was so tall now no one could see the smoke the chimney climbed into the sky through the stingy clouds for what seemed like a mile And Adam could only smile The magic is real the magic is real! But just then, smoke filled the room the scraper, rod and magic broom put the fire out quick but Momma still felt sick Something must be stuck with a little luck this won't take long this won't take long Adam stepped into the ash looked up the dark hole grabbed the bricks and began to climb through the smoke through the clouds hand over hand brick after brick how many hours it took he'll never know but he was hungry and tired when he finally came out rolled onto a floor of a very very big room big chairs, big tables big doors and big dogs and one big big gold coin! Adam tiptoed by the sleeping dogs while he heard the singing of giant frogs and footsteps beyond the door then he heard some more no more time for stealth Time to get Momma's wealth! Adam grabbed the coin and put it on his back the doorknob turned a giant shadow crossed the floor but Adam was here no more down the grate and on the bricks Adam still had some tricks He heard a cry above and the chimney shook Gold is a Giant's greatest love and the sootprints betrayed the crook The giant pulled off the Grate but it was too late As the Giant slowly squeezed down the shaft Adam started a fire in the hearth below The Giant's toes began to glow and he started to show the first signs of fear his eyebrows began to sear and in a large puff of smoke he disappeared Momma got her gold and in all the legends told Adam grew up to be the greatest chimneysweeper in history Adam the Giant killer Adam the Good son Adam the chimneysweep and his magical tools
