"A Generation That Won't Come Back" — Fan Comments , Part 2

{"A Generation That Won't Come Back" — Spoken Word, Part 2} {Property Of TENBREATHSUN ©} [Intro - spoken, soft ambient bed] After the first video, I thought I'd said everything I had to say. Then more of you kept writing in — and I realized the memories just keep coming. [Verse - spoken] Someone told me about drinking from a hose pipe, using sticks for horse reins, playing cowboys and Indians 'til the lightning bugs came out. She admitted she used to catch one and wear the light like a ring on her finger. Another one told me about hide and seek — boys against girls, on bicycles, a town six blocks square with no paved roads. The boys always found the girls in minutes. But one summer, the girls counted to a hundred, giving the boys time to hide under the bridge on the west side of town — and never got found. Forty years later, at a reunion, one of them finally confessed the whole plan. [Bridge - spoken, comments woven in] Somebody said it best — "we were one family then." Another told me growing up meant simplicity, freedom, and safety. She just said — it was beautiful. One woman remembered the warning on channel 4 every night — "do you know where your children are?" — and laughed, because back then, nobody really needed to ask. And one comment came from clear across the country, from Southern California — she said her town wasn't small by population, but it sure felt small by neighborhood. Said the details change, but the feeling's the same everywhere. [Outro - spoken, soft] One woman told me she and her husband are building a house in the country soon. Said there's going to be a screen door on the back. That's what this song keeps doing. It's not just bringing back memories — it's making people build new ones, out of the old ones. So to everyone still writing in, still telling me your stories — thank you. I'm listening. And I'm not going to stop. [End]
