Backyard Strangers

Pub punk, group vocals, gang vocals, group chant

[Verse 1 – background]
(already somehow knew)

[Chorus – all]
Backyard strangers, fella night! (fella night!)
We were singing wild and free! (wild and free!)
Someone yelled “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!)
And the whole yard sang with glee!

Backyard strangers, fella night! (fella night!)
Never saw those folks again! (again!)
But for one loud punk rock moment
We were all the best of friends! (best of friends)

[Verse 2 – lead]
A drummer used the picnic bench, a kid shook cans for sound
Someone thrashed a beat-up bass they said they’d found on solid ground
We played songs that weren’t real songs, just the noise of perfect fun
Till the night got lost in laughter
And the strangers felt like one

[Verse 2 – background]
(and the strangers felt like one)

Backyard strangers, fella night! (fella night!)
Never saw those folks again! (again!)
But for one loud punk rock moment
We were all the best of friends! (best of friends)

[Bridge – chant, printed four times]
Pass the chord! (pass the chord!)
Let the strangers play! (strangers play!)

Pass the chord! (pass the chord!)
Fellas lead the way! (lead the way!)

Pass the chord! (pass the chord!)
Let the night run long! (run long!)

Pass the chord! (pass the chord!)
Make a stranger song! (stranger song!)

[Final Chorus – all]
Backyard strangers, fella night! (fella night!)
Not a face we still recall! (still recall!)
But someone yelled “I’m Dail Milton!” (Milton!)
And the whole yard took the call!

Backyard strangers, fella night! (fella night!)
Never see those folks again! (again!)
But the jam lives on forever
In the memories of the men! (of the men)

[Verse 1 – lead] There was that one night in a backyard lit by someone’s porchlight glow We didn’t know the owners and the owners didn’t show A couple strangers grabbed guitars like they’d been waiting for the cue And the fellas grabbed the chorus Like we already somehow knew [Verse 1 – background] (already somehow knew) [Chorus – all] Backyard strangers, fella night!
