Hellbound on County Road Nine (Outlaw Country Horrorcore) (A Stereotypical Country Horrorcore Song)
[Intro] (Spoken over a lonely steel guitar and a heartbeat kick drum) Granddaddy said there are roads God forgot… And roads the Devil keeps for himself. County Road Nine is both. [Verse 1] Got a rusted-out Chevy and a gas tank low, Headlights cut through the midnight glow. Bible on the dash, .45 in the seat, But neither one can save you when the deadfolk meet. Old folks whisper when the sun drops down, “Don’t chase the lights past the edge of town.” But I heard my sweetheart call my name through the pines… She’s been gone fifteen years, harvest time. [Chorus] It’s a long ride home through the devil’s cornfield, Where the scarecrows grin and the shadows feel real. Got ghosts in the bed and a curse in the cab, And a black-eyed stranger with a crooked little laugh. I’m burning through whiskey, I’m burning through fuel, Running from a thing that don’t live by the rules. This ain’t some love song with a broken heart no more… It’s hellbound country horrorcore. [Verse 2] My old bloodhound Duke won’t leave the porch, Just growls at the dark, eyes lit like a torch. There’s something in the tree line counting every breath, Wearing Daddy’s old hat like it cheated death. Sheriff came knocking, said, “Boy, what’d you see?” I said, “You wouldn’t believe what’s following me.” He looked toward the field and his face turned white… Got back in his truck and left that night. [Bridge] There’s a preacher with a shovel digging behind the church, Says he’s looking for peace but he’s finding the cursed. Choir keeps singing though the pews are bare, And there’s footsteps moving when nobody’s there. Every old tree bends when the cold wind cries, Like they’re trying to hide from what crawls outside. If you hear a fiddle playing where the crossroads split… Don’t answer back. Don’t look for it. [Breakdown] Four bald tires and a full moon high, Engine screaming like a soul won’t die. Radio crackles with a preacher’s prayer, Then a voice cuts in— “Boy… we’ve been waiting out here.” [Final Chorus] It’s a long ride home through the devil’s cornfield, Where the crows don’t fly and the clocks stand still. Got a truck full of memories, a tank full of fear, And a passenger smiling from ear to ear. Mama said Heaven watches over us all… But Heaven gets mighty quiet when the nightbirds call. So if you see my taillights fading through the sycamore— Don’t follow me, brother… I ain’t driving alone anymore. [Outro] (Spoken) They found my Chevy abandoned by the county line. Keys still in it. Engine still warm. Radio still playing… But nobody’s been able to figure out Who the second set of hoof prints belonged to. :::
