Glenn and the Hat

🎵 Glenn and the Hat (Suno Version) Style: Classic Texas Country / Story Song Tempo hint: Mid-tempo (90–105 BPM) ⸻ [Verse 1] We had a job in West Austin Cliffs on Twenty-Two Twenty-Two Walked that ground from end to end Found cedar straight and true No dozers tearin’ through it Let the saw crews go Cut them posts from rock and hill Watched that money grow ⸻ [Verse 2] Kenny met up with Glenn one day Sent him out our way Keep the men and saws in line Work from dawn all day He knew that cedar country Like the back of his hand Kept that outfit hummin’ strong Across that rough hill land ⸻ [Chorus] Glenn and the hat on 2-2-2-2 Christmas gift went bad ‘fore the day was through One man proud and one man wild Trouble came up country-style All these years we still grin when We think about that hat… and Glenn ⸻ [Verse 3] Christmas time we gathered up Called the whole crew in Turkey, whiskey, bonus pay Thank the working men Cold beers popped and passed around Saws still far away Fifty men in cedar dust Standing there that day ⸻ [Verse 4] Parked my Riviera up the road Kept it out the brush Walked down not knowin’ what they’d done Just another hush Kenny reached into a box Grinned and handed it to me Every man just watched real close Like they all could see ⸻ [Verse 5] Finest hat I’d ever seen Thousand-X and clean Champagne color, perfect crown Best I’d ever owned Set it on and stood up tall Felt ten feet high Every man just stood there proud Smilin’ on the sly ⸻ [Chorus] Glenn and the hat on 2-2-2-2 Christmas gift went bad ‘fore the day was through One man proud and one man wild Trouble came up country-style All these years we still grin when We think about that hat… and Glenn ⸻ [Verse 6] Glenn came walkin’ from the brush Stopped and looked it through Said “Let me see it” — I said no Your hands ain’t clean enough He scrubbed ‘em down with Go-Jo soap Said “Alright, hand it here” I should’ve known right then and there Trouble was drawin’ near ⸻ [Verse 7] Turned it slow and checked the brim Like an old hand will Then mashed it hard against his sleeve Bent it to his will Rolled it up and crushed it down Ruined it outright Every man just froze in place Didn’t breathe that night ⸻ [Verse 8] I grabbed it back and stormed away Mad as I could get Drove a mile then turned around Couldn’t leave it yet Hit that jobsite hard and fast Dust flew in the air Glenn stepped out to meet me there Whole crew standin’ there ⸻ [Verse 9] Pulled his jacket over his head Then it got real fast Left hand flew and Christmas cheer Didn’t ever last Hit the ground and men jumped in Pulled us both apart That hat cost more than money then It hit me in the heart ⸻ [Bridge] Time rolls on and cools things down Hard turns into light What felt like war back in those days Turns to laughs in time ⸻ [Verse 10] Glenn moved on and settled down Up Llano way Years went by and we crossed paths Out beside the highway We both laughed about that day Like it weren’t so bad Funny how a busted hat Ain’t the worst we had ⸻ [Final Chorus] Glenn and the hat on 2-2-2-2 Christmas gift went bad ‘fore the day was through Time can smooth the hardest edge And carry me and you They cleaned and blocked that beaver hat Made it good as new ⸻ [Outro] So here’s the truth plain as that Don’t take lightly a good felt hat And don’t forget how wild men can Turn into stories in the end
