“You deserve better,” you said as you walked out the door. What I heard was, “You’re not worth the effort anymore.” What was it that I was not understanding? I was never unreasonable, unkind, or demanding. What had I done that made you leave? I never asked for roses, chocolates, or diamonds and such. I never really ever asked for much— and you couldn’t even give me that. I tried to be loving and forgiving. Those are things you should have given in return. Simple kindness… I shouldn’t have to earn. You said you loved me. I thought that would be forever. All the times you told me you were sorry, I hoped you meant it. I wanted to believe you wouldn't hurt me again. But I was wrong. Your needs have always come first. They were always met. I waited for my turn— it hasn’t come yet. So yes… I hear you clearly. I know this time you speak the truth. I do deserve better. And you’re living proof. You are the living proof
