# AN INVITATION TO THE GHOST PARTY ### CAST **NARRATOR** **HOST GHOST** **THE SIREN** **THE HARPY CHOIR** **MONSTER GUESTS** **THE WITCH & THE MUMMY** ---------------------------------------- *(The chandeliers awaken inside a castle that has stood empty for one hundred years.)* [**HOST GHOST**] “Good evening, creatures, spirits, friends Welcome where the hallway bends.” [**NARRATOR**] For a hundred years the ballroom slept While dust moved in and moonlight crept We ghosts cried “Boo!” from wall to wall But no one came to fear us at all So invitations crossed the night And midnight brought you all inside [**HOST GHOST**] “The gates are open, candles bright Our empty hall is full tonight Now dim the lamps and clear the floor— The Siren opens up the show!” *(The ballroom darkens. A pale blue light reveals the Siren.)* [The Siren’s concert.] Ah―― Oh―― Aaah―― Ah, eh, oh Eh-ah, oh-ah Ah, eh, oh Ah-oh *(The chandeliers flare back to life. The Witch and the Mummy ascend together on a long white silk.)* [**NARRATOR**] The witch and mummy held on tight They spun the silk by candlelight The witch came down and took a bow Her partner vanished—no body now The brass called out, the snare replied Red capes cut through the candlelight The monsters struck a paso doble And shook the portraits on the wall The crowd began to shout— [**MONSTER GUESTS**] “Encore!” *(The Host Ghost calls out above the cheering.)* [**HOST GHOST**] “Bring back the Siren! One song more!” [**NARRATOR**] Fish-folk drums and harpies came The Siren led them back onstage! *(The ballroom fills with drums, beating wings and wordless voices.)* [*The Siren and Harpy Choir’s concert.*] Eh… ah Oh… ah Eh-ah, eh-ah Ah-oh-ah Ah―― oh―― Aaah―― aaah―― Oh―― ah―― Ah―――― Ah-eh, oh-ah, eh-oh Oh―――― Eh-ah, oh-ah, ah! Aaah―――― *(The final note fades. The ghosts look down from the chandeliers at the crowded ballroom.)* [**NARRATOR**] The ghosts looked down from chandeliers They could not hear their own old chains For the first time in a hundred years Every echo came back laughing No empty chair, no silent floor No waiting by the castle door The empty castle wasn’t empty— [**HOST GHOST**] “It’s a ghost party tonight!" "It’s a ghost party tonight!!!!”" ----- fin ----- # ゴーストパーティーへの招待状 ### 登場人物 **ナレーター** **主催者のゴースト** **セイレーン** **ハーピー合唱団** **モンスターの客たち** **魔女とミイラ** --------------------------------------------------- （百年間、誰も訪れなかった城。そのシャンデリアに明かりがともる） **主催者のゴースト** 「こんばんは、怪物たち、精霊たち、友人たち 廊下が曲がりくねる、この城へようこそ」 **ナレーター** 百年ものあいだ、舞踏広間は眠り続け 埃が舞うなか、月明かりだけが忍び込んだ ゴーストたちは壁から壁へ「ブー！」と叫んだ けれど、怖がりに来る者は誰もいなかった そこで招待状を夜の向こうへ送り 真夜中が、客たちを城へ連れてきた **主催者のゴースト** 「門は開いた、ろうそくも輝いている 空っぽだった広間も今夜は満員 さあ、明かりを落として舞台を空けて―― セイレーンが幕を開けます！」 （舞踏広間が暗転し、青白い光の中にセイレーンが現れる） （セイレーンのコンサート） （シャンデリアが再び輝く。魔女とミイラが抱き合い、長い白いシルクを登っていく） **ナレーター** 魔女とミイラは固く抱き合い ろうそくの光の中、シルクとともに回った 魔女は床へ降り立ち、一礼した 相方は消えていた――もう中身はない 金管が呼びかけ、スネアが応える 赤いマントがろうそくの光を切り裂く モンスターたちはパソドブレを踊り 壁に掛かった肖像画まで揺らした やがて客席から声が上がる―― **モンスターの客たち** 「アンコール！」 （歓声の上から、主催者のゴーストが叫ぶ） **主催者のゴースト** 「セイレーンをもう一度！ あと一曲！」 **ナレーター** 魚人族の太鼓隊とハーピーたちが現れ セイレーンが彼らを連れ、再び舞台へ上がった （舞踏広間が太鼓、羽音、言葉のない歌声で満たされる） （セイレーンとハーピー合唱団のコンサート） （最後の歌声が消えていく。ゴーストたちはシャンデリアから、満員の舞踏広間を見下ろす） **ナレーター** ゴーストたちはシャンデリアから見下ろした もう自分たちの古びた鎖の音さえ聞こえない 百年ぶりに すべてのこだまが笑い声となって返ってきた 空いている椅子も、静かな床もない 城の扉で誰かを待つ必要もない 空っぽだった城は、もう空っぽではなかった―― **主催者のゴースト** 「今夜はゴーストパーティー！」 **主催者のゴーストとモンスターの客たち** 「ゴーストパーティー！ 窓を揺らして、夜を目覚めさせろ！ ゴーストパーティー！ すべての怪物たち、輪の中へ！ ゴーストパーティー！ 踏み鳴らせ、鎖を鳴らせ、喜びに吠えろ！ 空っぽだった城が今夜は生きている―― 今夜はゴーストパーティー！ ゴーストパーティー！ ゴーストパーティー！ 今夜はゴーストパーティー！」 ――終幕――
