Out of my mind (...and out of the airlock)

[Verse 1 – mellow, easygoing] I was cruisin’ down the promenade of a station run, Lookin’ for a snack or a bit of sun, A Yuh-so-kee winked and said, “Hey friend, try a bite,” Handed me a pastry shaped like nothin’ right...[brief pause] I staggered ‘round laughin’, feelin’ warm and sweet, Stars tasted like sugar on my tongue and teeth, Found a round doorway glowin’ cool and blue— Thought it was a nightclub… stepped right through. [Chorus – relaxed, drifting, blissful] Out of my mind, out of the airlock, Floatin’ where the starlanes twist and rock. Driftin’ slow with the satellites, Space feels soft in the lack of lights. I should be scared, but I’m doin’ fine— Guess I’m out of my mind… and out of the airlock. [Verse 2 – mellow, amused] Realized quick I’d hit the void, But bein’ undead, I wasn’t annoyed. My drink still hovered right by my head, And some Hitchhiker's guide that I never read. I kicked back weightless, calm as can be, Watchin’ starships slide like fish through the sea. Saw a comet flash with a painter’s streak— Most peace I’d felt in a couple weeks. [Verse 3 – drifting contentment] The hum of the void was a lullaby tune, Stars winked at me like a friendly moon. A freighter passed close with a golden glow, Crew pressed to the window like, “Hey, you know, You shouldn’t be out here,” but I just waved, Feelin’ like the universe’s favorite stray. I spun in a circle, slow and wide— Felt like dancin’ on the cosmic tide. [Verse 4 – calmer, content (revised)] Been floatin’ for hours—maybe days? Hard to tell in the Drift’s weird ways. Spotted a cruiser slowin’ down for me, Lights blinkin’ friendly in zero-G. But they cracked their hatch and dumped their trash, A drifting chunk gave my flip-flop a bash, Knocked it loose and sent it sailin’ wide, Driftin’ off slow on the cosmic tide. Guess they took one look and said “not today,” Left me floatin’ as they slid away. But before they fade into the starry throng, I’ll sing it soft—my favorite song. [Outro – gentle, drifting fade] If someone grabs me, cool—if not, I’ll watch the starlanes twist in knots. The void ain’t cold when you’ve lost your fear, And space feels warmer year by year. I’m weightless, aimless, floatin’ free, Guess the airlock set the real me free. So pour me calm where the starlanes shine— I’m out of the airlock, and out of my mind.
