Johnny rolled up in his pickup truck Becky run down the steps, all dressed up Sunset hittin’ her hair just right Two hearts burnin’ like a summer night They hit that dirt road, radio loud Windows down, no cares allowed Stars peeked out through a painted sky Love was young and the world was wide They were wild, they were free Chasin’ dreams and destiny Laughin’ ‘til the morning light Kissin’ by the dashboard light Didn’t know what life would bring Just a boy, a girl, and everything Johnny and Becky, holdin’ tight Lost in love on a summer night Bare feet dancin’ in the county fair glow Cotton candy lips, soft and slow Every song on that old FM Felt like it was written just for them He carved her name on a sycamore tree Said, “Someday, girl, you’ll marry me” She smiled shy and whispered low “Let’s see where this long road goes” They were wild, they were free Chasin’ dreams and destiny Laughin’ ‘til the morning light Kissin’ by the dashboard light Didn’t know what life would bring Just a boy, a girl, and everything Johnny and Becky, holdin’ tight Lost in love on a summer night Years went by, and time rolled on The fire still burns, though the night’s grown long That same old truck’s out in the drive And every now and then they take a ride Still wild, still free Chasin’ life and memory Laughin’ ‘neath that moonlit sky Lovin’ like they did that night Didn’t know what life would bring Just a boy, a girl, and everything Johnny and Becky, still all right Lost in love on a summer night
