V6

[Intro: VEX — Quiet] Used to think if I wasn’t steering, everything would go to shit. Turns out... Scott can actually manage sometimes. Don’t look so fucking surprised. [Beat Rolls In] [Verse 1: VEX] I used to sit ready, hand on the switch, Waiting for one bad day to turn into shit. One wrong word, one doubt, one look he disliked, And there I was shouting, “Right, fuck this tonight.” But lately he stops. Actually thinks. Doesn’t always dive straight over the brink. He’ll feel that pressure, take one deep breath, And sometimes leave the argument where it fucking belongs instead. That matters. Because I know the old Scott. Every little problem became full combat. Every unanswered question became proof of the worst, Then he’d wonder why everything fucking hurt. Not now. Not always. But enough. [Chorus: VEX — Melodic] So I’ll let him drive, I don’t need the wheel, He’s finally learning what deserves to feel real. Blue E92, road opening wide, I’m still here beside him... But I’ll let him drive. I’ll let him drive, Let the night roll clean, He doesn’t need saving from every fucking thing. [Verse 2: VEX] Don’t confuse this with me disappearing. Nah. I still notice everything. I see the people who mean what they say, And the ones who only turn up when they need shit that day. I see when he’s tired. See when he pretends. See which people are family and which ones just play friends. That’s my job. Always has been. But maybe protection doesn’t mean jumping into every scene. Sometimes protecting Scott is shutting him up. Yeah. You heard me. Because that bastard can talk himself into making things worse. I’m like, “Mate, stop. You've said enough. Get in the fucking car. Turn the bass up.” And amazingly... it works. [Chorus] So I’ll let him drive, I don’t need the wheel, He’s finally learning what deserves to feel real. Blue E92, road opening wide, I’m still here beside him... But I’ll let him drive. [Bridge: VEX — Spoken] There was a time he needed me louder. Angrier. Sharper. Maybe he still will again. But needing me less? That’s not losing my purpose. That means I did my fucking job. [Verse 3: VEX — Honest] I watched him carry grief like concrete in his chest, Still turn up for everyone, still pretend he needed less. Watched him fuck things up, then finally admit that saying sorry means nothing if you keep repeating the shit. That was the lesson. Not being perfect. Just recognising the pattern before you wreck it. And yeah, sometimes he still gets it wrong. Still overthinks. Still stays angry too long. Still goes quiet when he should fucking speak, Then talks for two hours when five words would meet. Classic Scott. But he’s trying. Properly trying. And I can respect that. [Final Chorus — Bigger] SO I’LL LET HIM DRIVE, LET THE BLUE CAR RUN, LET HIM HAVE THE NIGHT WITHOUT FIGHTING EVERYONE. I’LL KEEP WATCH, I’LL STAY INSIDE, BUT HE DOESN’T NEED VEX HOLDING THE WHEEL ALL NIGHT. I’LL LET HIM DRIVE, LET THE ROAD MOVE ON, THE MAN I HAD TO PROTECT IS GETTING FUCKING STRONG. [Outro: VEX — Low] Don’t get cocky, Scott. I said you can drive. I didn’t say you’re good at parking. [End]
