We Were the Weather (Verse 1) They said the storm would break us, didn’t know we were the storm, Didn’t know that every winter was just summer bein’ born, We took the “not enough” they handed us and made it plenty, Turned the empty room to shelter, turned the shelter into twenty, Hands that used to hold the hurt learned how to hold each other, Found a family in the strangers, found a sister in a brother, Wasn’t luck and wasn’t magic, it was somethin’ more like knowin’ — We’re not victims of the weather, baby, we’re the weather blowin’. (Pre-Chorus) So let the thunder come, we’ll dance right through it, Let the rain come down, we’ll grow right to it, Ain’t no season built that we can’t move through — ‘Cause we were never lost inside the storm, we’re what it’s movin’ to. (Chorus) We were the weather all along, we were the change we waited on, We were the mornin’ after midnight, we’re the dusk before the dawn, Didn’t need to find the light, we WERE the light, we’re what it’s made of, Turned the whole entire sky into a color made of hard-earned love, We were the weather, we were the weather — Watch us turn a hurricane to a feather. (Verse 2) We used to beg the universe to send a sign, to send a savior, Didn’t know the universe had been rehearsin’ our behavior, Every scar became a sentence in a story we were writin’, Every fallin’ down became a fallin’ into somethin’ brighter, We stopped waitin’ on tomorrow like tomorrow had the answer, Realized we were the tomorrow, realized we were the dancer, Not the music playin’ to us, we’re the music bein’ played, We’re the melody and rhythm of the promise that we made. (Bridge — call and response, building) Somebody said we’d break — (we didn’t break) Somebody said too late — (it’s not too late) Somebody said stay small — (we heard it all) And rose up anyway. Somebody said the odds — (we are the odds) Somebody said no gods — (we found our gods) Right here between us, In the space that holds it all. (Final Chorus — everything, all in) We were the weather all along, we were the change we waited on, We were the mornin’ after midnight, we’re the dusk before the dawn, Didn’t need to find the light, we WERE the light, we’re what it’s made of, Turned the whole entire sky into a color made of hard-earned love, We were the weather, we were the weather — Rose up like we’d rise forever. (Outro) …we were the weather… …all along… …all along…
