Third eagle-LOTRs, Gandalf, Mithrandir
************************************* The third eagle is LOTRs lore pinnacle of Mercy... sent for Gollum, but he was not there to take it. The symbolism is that you can be as twisted, wicked onto being a shadow of yourself and what you are meant to be... but God's love will still reach for you, to bring you home. We all need a third eagle.... ************************************* Moonlight falls on a shattered keep, Broken banners in the dust and sleet. I lie still, as shadows creep, Drums fade, as does my heartbeat. I strain to lift my eyes, but I despair, So I call to the sky… I call up there… The sun sinks low, the light grows thin, My body heavy, my soul feels light. I’d reach for anything… But I’ve lost my fight. Sky! ... please send me an eagle, Wings spread wide, carry me home. Lift me above the swords, end my struggle, Don’t let me fall in darkness alone. Gandalf… send me an eagle, I’ve missed the first, the second… There’s only the third for me now— The one You send for the lost somehow. I marched to glory, not for right, Let villages burn the peasants to plight. Left my mother crying while calling my name, Chose steel and shadow, left love for fame. I bartered honor for a fleeting crown, Now in this ruin where my blood spills, Left kinder souls to falter, drown. I see the sum... my willful ills. Sky! ... please send me an eagle, Wings spread wide, carry me home. Lift me above the swords, end my struggle, Don’t let me fall in darkness alone. Gandalf… send me an eagle, I’ve missed the first, the second… There’s only the third for me now— The one You send for the lost somehow. Shields lie cracked on the crimson ground, Spears like forests all around. I feel the wounds that no healer could mend, A truth I know… this is my end. My breath grows short, my vision blurs, The world drifts far, like a dream unheard. I whisper softly through the fading light, “I’ve carried my wrongs… too long to fight.” The battlefield murmurs of deeds undone, Shadows stretch long in my dying sun. I feel the weight of the crowns I chased, All the battles fought in pride and haste. Old companions lost to storms of fate, Names I carry like a heavy gate. I murmur softly as the winds subsides, “Forgive the man I was… before Your eyes.” The world grows quiet, Shadows fall... I hear voices calling, Mocking my fall. Mithrandir! Send me an eagle, Spread its wings and carry me home. Lift me above all the arrows and anguish, Don’t let me face this darkness alone. Gandalf!… send me an eagle, Let me rise where the wild winds roam. I clutch my ring, its weight is stone, Not the world’s evil, but my own. Yet even the twisted were not denied— A Third Eagle flew for the one who died. If mercy reached his twisted fall, Then maybe grace can reach me through it all. Take me higher than the mountains tall, To where the white shores call. (white shores.... calling...) Maiar! Is there one more eagle?! Spread its wings and carry me home. Lift me above all the arrows and anguish, Don’t let me face this darkness alone. Valar! … pity send me an eagle, Let me rise as wild winds roam. My eyes grow heavy, the world turns dim, Edges blur, a fading hymn. Darkness gathers, soft and slow, But I feel the wind begin to blow. A whisper of wings cuts through the night, Feathers beating just out of sight… I close my eyes... Let the darkness come— . . And feel an eagle… carrying me home.
