[Verse 1] At the mountain’s throat We stood in iron lines Leonidas in red A crown of sleeping time The sea wind cut our faces The sand held every vow Behind us, home was breathing We would not let it down [Pre-Chorus] They came like winter fire A river, black and vast But kings don’t bend for thunder They fight until the last [Chorus] Hold the gate Hold it high For the ones we love We die Hold the gate Hold it now Let our blood Be the vow [Verse 2] His royal guard around him Brothers in a final ring Each shield a little homeland Each heart a stubborn king The arrows darkened sunlight The dust turned gold to gray And still we heard the children Past the hills, far away [Pre-Chorus] No song could make us taller No prayer could make us few So we became the wall there And made the wall hold true [Chorus] Hold the gate Hold it high For the ones we love We die Hold the gate Hold it now Let our blood Be the vow [Bridge] Tell them we were mortal Tell them we were afraid Tell them fear was human And still we did not break If Greece remembers anything Let it be this name A handful at the hot gates Who chose the fire and stayed [Final Chorus] Hold the gate Hold it high For the ones we love We die Hold the gate Hold it now Let our blood Be the vow Hold the gate Hold it still Though the world may Lean and kill Hold the gate Speak our sound We were lost But not unbound
