[Verse 1] [female vocal] My day of reckoning has begun The courtroom is set, the bell’s been rung I have chosen to be my own defence Cause as you'll see, it'll make more sense The judge comes in and takes his seat He looks my way and I feel retreat The charges are all read out loud There's oohs and ahs from the gallery crowd [Verse 2] [female vocal] The judge looks down and asks my plea "Sir, some I cannot know, but most Not Guilty" Listed down, all in a line They sound so petty at this time: "Failed to achieve a level of smart Too dumb to learn the classroom art A cheat in exams and a cheat in life You failed as a mother and as a wife" [Verse 3] [female vocal] "You stole and you lied for what wasn't yours You idled away behind closed doors" And on and on the long list grew: "You're fat and ugly, was down there to You'll never work, you're just too dumb Failed at everything under the sun" Finally the charges came to an end "Well," said the judge, [male vocal] "are you ready to defend?" [Chorus] [female vocal] One by one I answered each charge An unfair conviction looming large Defending the mistakes that I paid for in tears Carrying their criticism all of these years Fighting a war that I didn't create Standing alone at the mercy of fate [Verse 4][female vocal] Then the judge did something I didn't expect He dismissed the jury and gave me respect [male vocal] "My dear," [female vocal] he said,[male vocal] "you're not guilty of sin All of these charges you're fighting to win You are not dirty, you're not failing in life Your chance was stolen to be a mother and a wife You lied and you cheated to find your self-worth It's a difficult thing to be free on this earth" [Outro] [male vocal] "Those that have judged you should be the ones here You're free to go, your conscience is clear" Judge not another with words or with shame You don't know where they walk You can't feel their pain [female vocal] The courtroom is empty, the shadows depart And the verdict is peace inside of my heart
