Everything but the rain

I’ve been holding out, Not giving in. Every day feels heavier, But I won’t let it win. I keep my hands alive, Just to make them sing. The air is thick, the hours don’t move, But I’m not sinking, I’ve got nothing to prove. I stay awake, my hands on the strings, Searching for a sound that still means something. I’ve seen the walls, I’ve heard the hum, But I won’t collapse, I won’t come undone. It’s everything but the rain, Breaking down inside my veins. I won’t call it despair, Hmmm, I’m still here. The night comes on, the silence is loud, I stand my ground, I don’t join the crowd. The floorboards creak, the windows shake, But I won’t drown in what they take. Every shadow tries to drag me near, I turn away, I don’t want to hear. It’s everything but the rain, Crashing hard against my frame. I won’t call it defeat, Haaa, I still breathe. Even when the weight cuts deep, I won’t fall asleep in grief. I’ll keep burning on this string, Until my voice can finally sing. And if the silence tears apart, I’ll still be here with this guitar. It’s everything but the rain, I can feel it, but I stay. I won’t bow to the ache, Oooh, I won’t break. Everything but the rain… Everything but the rain…
