I was buried underneath my own name Counting every reason I should never change Every voice inside me saying “don’t you move” Every mirror showing only what I’d lose But I heard you reaching through the other side Saying hold on, hold on, just survive I know the dark, I know the climb I’ll meet you at the edge of light Higher, higher through the dark Past every shadow wrapped around your heart I’ll be the hand, I’ll strike the spark We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna tear it all apart Higher, higher past the fall Through every wall you built to feel it all I’ll be the voice inside the call We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna outlive it all (we’re gonna rise) (we’re gonna rise) Through the dark (we’re gonna rise) I was praying to a ceiling made of stone Learning all the ways a heart can break alone Then your voice cut clean across the night Saying broken things don’t fade—they learn to fly And I’ll keep calling from the other side Saying hold on, don’t let go this time I know the weight, I know the fight I’ll meet you at the breaking light Higher, higher through the dark Past every doubt that tried to leave its mark I’ll be the hand, I’ll strike the spark We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna leave where we are Higher, higher past the fall Through every fear that tried to take it all I’ll be the light inside it all We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna outlive the fall I can see the morning in your eyes Like a fire I was too afraid to find I can feel the weight begin to move Like I finally have something left to lose Hold on, hold on, don’t lose the line We’re closer than we’ve been this whole time Hold on, hold on, feel it rise We’re right there at the edge of light Higher, higher through the dark Past every scar that tried to leave its mark We are the flame, we are the spark We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna tear it all apart Higher, higher past the fall Through every wall that tried to make us small We are the voice, we are the call We’re gonna rise, we’re gonna outlive it all Higher than the dark… Past who we were… (we’re gonna rise…) Into the light…
