Track 27. SAUL - "The Fallen Crown"

Verse 1:
Head and shoulders above them all,
The people's chosen king,
Anointed by the prophet's hand,
To make the nation sing.
But when the Philistines drew near,
And Samuel delayed,
He took the priest's role for himself,
And disobeyed that day. Chorus:
The fallen crown, the broken vow,
Obedience better than sacrifice now.
When pride replaced humility,
God's spirit would depart from thee.
A kingdom torn from trembling hands,
Given to a better man. Verse 2:
"Destroy the Amalekites," God said,
"Leave nothing there alive,"
But Saul kept back the best of sheep,
And let their king survive.
"To obey is better than sacrifice,
To listen than the fat of rams,"
Samuel spoke with grieving heart,
"Your kingdom will not stand." Chorus:
The fallen crown, the broken vow,
Obedience better than sacrifice now.
When pride replaced humility,
God's spirit would depart from thee.
A kingdom torn from trembling hands,
Given to a better man. Bridge:
A shepherd boy with five smooth stones,
Would slay the giant tall,
And Saul's jealousy consumed his heart,
As he watched young David's call.
"Saul has killed his thousands," they sang,
"But David tens of thousands more,"
And madness gripped the failing king,
As God closed every door. Final Chorus:
The fallen crown, the broken vow,
Obedience better than sacrifice now.
When pride replaced humility,
God's spirit had departed thee.
On Gilboa's mount he'd fall that day,
His kingdom passed away.
