I Am Surtr

V6

[Intro – impossibly deep male voice, fire crackling] Before your halls had names... before your gods drew borders... I stood in flame. You call me destruction. I call myself the ending you were always promised. [Verse 1 – rapid chopper flow] I am Surtr, south where the firelands breathe, Black blade burning with the sun underneath. Muspel behind me, embers ahead, I walk where kingdoms become the dead. Not born in hatred, not forged from spite, I am the shadow at the edge of light. You build, you conquer, you boast, you reign, Then every age must answer the flame. I watched your temples climb from stone, Watched every king declare a throne. Watched men swear their walls would last, Same old lie from every past. Wood becomes coal and steel turns red, Names disappear when the age lies dead. You fear the fire because fire is true: Everything standing can burn through. [Pre-Chorus – deep crew chant] SOUTH! FLAME! BLACKENED SKY! [Chorus – enormous low male choir] I AM SURTR! I am the fire at the end of the age! I AM SURTR! I turn the last unwritten page! Sword like sunrise, black smoke higher, Gods and giants walk through fire! I AM SURTR! When the old world falls— I raise the pyre! [Verse 2 – faster] Do not confuse me with mindless rage, I do not burn for hatred or praise. Fire destroys, but fire renews, Forest knows what kingdoms refuse. Ash feeds root and root feeds green, Death makes room for what comes unseen. You call it ending, I call it turn, Nothing eternal escapes the burn. Ragnarök isn't a crime I planned, It is the breaking already at hand. Wolf runs free and the serpent wakes, Bifröst groans and creation shakes. I do not summon the final war, I cross the threshold already torn. When all the debts of the gods come due, I bring the flame that carries them through. [Beat switch – war horn, roaring fire] [Verse 3 – ultra-fast chopper] Freyr, I know you. Golden lord. Harvest hand with an empty sword. Once you carried a blade that fought By itself with the will you brought. Then love took steel from your waiting hand, And fate remembers every bargain planned. You meet me standing, weapon gone, Still you face me at Ragnarök’s dawn. That I respect. No mockery here. Courage is standing while knowing the fear. But courage alone cannot alter the thread, And fields must burn before grain can spread. You fall to flame, I carry on, Not because you're weak— because the age is gone. [Chorus] I AM SURTR! I am the fire at the end of the age! I AM SURTR! I turn the last unwritten page! Sword like sunrise, black smoke higher, Gods and giants walk through fire! I AM SURTR! When the old world falls— I raise the pyre! [Verse 4 – slow beginning, accelerating] Óðinn falls. Þórr takes nine. Týr and Garmr cross the line. Heimdall and Loki settle the score. Nothing remains as it stood before. Then comes fire. Mine. Across the field. Across the hall. Across the roots that watched you all. Sky turns black, then burns to gold, Stories end that once were old. Not one palace, not one crown, Not one boast survives me now. But listen close before you flee: Destruction is not all you see. After the smoke, after the rain, Earth rises green from death again. The world returns from burning night. Two humans shelter, morning bright. So call me death if death's your word— I clear the ash so life is heard. [Bridge – low spoken voice over fire] I am not evil. Fire has no hatred. The hearth warms. The forge creates. The pyre consumes. The forest burns. Same flame. Different hour. [Final Verse – maximum-speed chopper] I am the spark at creation’s rim, The red horizon when daylight dims. I am the heat beneath hammered steel, The truth that all temporary things feel. No chain will hold me, no wall withstand, No prayer can bargain fire from land. When Norns cut deep and the age expires, I walk from Muspel crowned in fires. No pleasure taken, no mercy claimed, No victim chosen, no innocent blamed. I am function, consequence, change, The final law when worlds rearrange. So when my sword makes heaven ignite, Do not mistake necessity for spite. Your age had dawn, your age had breath, Now fire becomes the bridge through death. [Final Chorus – full choir, massive bass and war horns] I AM SURTR! I am the fire at the end of the age! I AM SURTR! I turn the last unwritten page! Sword like sunrise, black smoke higher, Gods and giants walk through fire! I AM SURTR! THE OLD WORLD BURNS— [beat cuts] [Outro – quiet, flames fading] And from the ash... green returns. I do not hate the world. I make room for the next one.
