03.Romeo's lament
[Scene opens with a slow, grinding bassline and an eerie harpsichord. A mournful cello joins in before the heavy, distorted guitars kick in.] [Verse 1] The blood of Montague runs cold beneath my skin A stranger to myself, I let the shadows in Melancholy drops a veil across my weary sight I draw the heavy shutters, I kill the morning light Pacing up and down the cold and stony floor Let the daylight die outside my heavy oaken door [Pre-Chorus] [Tempo builds, double-kick drums start rolling, operatic choir softly chants in the background] No golden sun can thaw the winter in my head I’ll forge an artificial night instead Where specters whisper and the raven flies Hidden from my father’s searching eyes I shun the dawn, I shun the turning tide With only my despair to be my guide [Chorus] [Explosive gothic rock energy, soaring lead guitar, thunderous drums] Oh, Juliet! A phantom in the dark! A silver dagger through my aching heart! I’m poisoned by the love I can’t forget, But swallowed by my hate for Capulet! A Montague in chains of his own making, Trapped inside a dream that’s never waking! [Verse 2] [Music strips back down to a solitary, driving bass and a haunting piano melody] They ask me why I waste my youth away Why I flee the waking hours of the day But how can I explain this wretched, twisted curse? The plague of loving her is something worse For every tender vision of her angel face Is strangled by the venom of our ancient race. [Pre-Chorus] [Guitars return, thick and distorted, choir rises in volume] So let the artificial midnight fall I'll paint my bloody sorrow on the chamber wall Where specters whisper and the raven flies Hidden from the world's accusing eyes I shun the dawn, I shun the turning tide With only my despair to be my guide [Chorus] [Full symphonic rock explosion] Oh, Juliet! A phantom in the dark! A silver dagger through my aching heart! I’m poisoned by the love I can’t forget, But swallowed by my hate for Capulet! A Montague in chains of his own making, Trapped inside a dream that’s never waking! [Bridge] [Tempo halves, heavy, doom-metal chugging riffs. Call and response between Romeo and the Choir] Romeo: Love! Choir: (A holy grace!) Romeo: Hate! Choir: (A damned embrace!) Romeo: Two ancient houses seal my bitter fate! I taste her virgin kiss, I taste the spilling blood! A crimson rose dragged screaming through the mud! Tear down the sun! Put out the stars! Leave nothing but the bleeding of our scars! [Guitar Solo - frantic, emotional, soaring and tragic, ending on a sustained, wailing note] [Outro] [Music fades to just a solitary, echoing piano and the sound of falling rain] I am not myself... The daylight burns my eyes... Only in this artificial night... Can my dark love arise. Oh, Juliet... God damn thy name of Capulet...
