[Verse 1] Met you at a barbecue in late December Smoke on the air and the sun like ember You laughed at a joke that I didn't finish Forgot the punchline, but you liked the beginning Not rushing in like I did before Not building houses on a maybe floor Just a cold drink sweating in the shade And a little conversation that didn't fade [Pre-Chorus] Take it slow, take it slow Let the evening go where it goes No big plans, no big chase Just your smile and this place [Chorus] Slow down summer, don't you run Let me stay here in the sun Slow down summer, take your time I'm not in a hurry this time (ooh, slow down) Let the afternoon roll by (ooh, slow down) I'm not in a hurry this time [Verse 2] Text you in the morning, "how'd you sleep?" Little things now, nothing too deep You don't need fixing and neither do I Two kinda healed people under one sky I tell you 'bout the girl and the paper wings You tell me 'bout your own broken things Nobody flinches, nobody runs Just two people sitting in the sun [Pre-Chorus] Take it slow, take it slow Let the evening go where it goes No big plans, no big chase Just your smile and this place [Chorus] Slow down summer, don't you run Let me stay here in the sun Slow down summer, take your time I'm not in a hurry this time (ooh, slow down) Let the afternoon roll by (ooh, slow down) I'm not in a hurry this time [Bridge - Guitar and voice] I learned the hard way Love's not a race It's showing up At an easy pace [Final Chorus] Slow down summer, don't you run Let me stay here in the sun Slow down summer, take your time I'm not in a hurry this time (ooh, slow down) Let the afternoon roll by (ooh, slow down) I'm not in a hurry this time [Outro] Not in a hurry... This time
