Psalm 51 - Retired
[Superscription] To the Musician, the chief, A psalm when David did transgress, When Nathan came in firm belief To warn him of his wickedness. [Verse] Have mercy O God on me. According to thy lovingkindness, And thy many tender mercies: Blot out sin when I transgress. [Chorus] Wash me from my sin, And cleanse me from my iniquity. I acknowledge my transgressions: My sin is ever before [Verse] Against thee have I sinned, Having done this evil in thy sight. Thou art justified when thou speakest, And clear when judging in thy might. [Solo] [From the child, Nathan] See, I was shaped in iniquity; In sin did my mother conceive me. [From the mother Bath-Sheba] Behold, thou desirest the truth In the depths of the inward part; Thou teacheth me thy wisdom too, In the hidden chambers of my heart. [Solo] [Verse] Purge me with hyssop. I know I’ll be clean. I’ll be whiter than snow, If you wash me. Make me hear gladness. Make me hear joy. My bones that thou hest Once broken, they’ll soon rejoice!! [Chorus] Wash me from my sin, And cleanse me from my iniquity. I acknowledge my transgressions: My sin is ever before me. [Verse] Hide my sins from thy face, Blot out all of my iniquities. A clean heart for me wilt thou create. Renew a right spirit for me. Cast me not out of thy presence. Take not thy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy in salvation. Uphold me with thy spirit free. [Solo] [Verse] Then will I teach, Transgressors thy ways; Sinners shall thereafter be Converted to thee from that day. Deliver me from blood and guilt, O God, the God of salvation. My tongue will sing aloud it will! Thy righteousness, Thy invitation. [Chorus] Wash me from my sin, And cleanse me from my iniquity. I acknowledge my transgressions: My sin is ever before me. [Solo] [Verse] Open my lips, my mouth shall praise. I would give you anything. But no sacrifice is requested today. You delight in no burnt offering. The sacrifice, best by far, is simply a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, God thou wilt come near it. Do good, Do thy good pleasure. Do good to all of Zion. Build thou the walls tall and far Jerusalem build up again. Then wilt thou be pleased: With righteous sacrifice, whole or burnt. All our offering thou wilt see: Offer once again (on thine altar). [Solo] [Psalm 51 B 4d3a2i (R1)]
