Verse 1 In the dust of Kings Canyon she found her, a young woman with a laugh that cut through the dropship noise. Wraith never thought the void would leave room for anyone, until that girl reached through the static and stayed. They ran together. Fought together. Slept in the same quiet after the ring closed. For a little while the voices in Wraith’s head sounded less like ghosts and more like home. Chorus 1 Then a Kraber cracked the sky apart. One shot. One breath. One body going still in the dirt. Wraith tore a portal open with shaking hands, screaming her name into the blue light. Too late. The girl was already gone. And Wraith stood in the smoke with a doorway to nowhere and a heart that had nowhere left to go. Verse 2 She used to phase through bullets like they were weather. She could not phase through this. She held her until the banner expired, until the match forgot they had ever been a team. The other squads moved on. The dropship left. Wraith stayed on the ground where the blood had already gone dark, whispering, “Just a second more. Just let me take you with me.” The portal hummed. The body did not. Chorus 2 A Kraber stole the only soft thing she had. Wraith opened a path through space and time and still arrived a lifetime too late. She would have traded every voidwalk, every voice, every legend name, just to pull that girl through the light alive. Now the portal only leads back to the moment she lost her. Over and over. Too late. Always too late. Verse 3 After that, Wraith stopped talking to the squad. Stopped joking in the dropship. Stopped looking people in the eye. The voices got louder. They said she should have seen the glint. They said she should have phased first. They said she let her die. She started taking the long way through the map just to walk past the spot where it happened, as if the dirt might give the girl back if she asked it enough times. Bridge At night she opens portals in empty rooms and waits for a silhouette that never comes. She whispers into the void, “Come home. Please. I still have a place for you.” The blue light answers with nothing but her own face, tired and wrong and still alive. Chorus 3 A Kraber ended a love that had just learned how to breathe. Wraith reached through dimensions and still could not outrun a single bullet. She would burn the whole Outlands down to have one more round beside her. Instead she sits in the dark with the void in her chest, replaying the shot, the fall, the portal that opened on a body that would never stand again. Too late. She was too late. And now every door she opens only leads to the girl she could not save. Outro The portal flickers. Wraith does not step through. There is no version of the map where that girl is still laughing. Just a legend who can walk between worlds and still cannot bring her home. (mhm)
