I love cows. Always have. Big, gentle cows, with those quiet eyes. Even when I was little, there was that one word that kept coming back... Koe-tjie... I loved cows from the moment I was small Long before I knew what safety was at all My first word was Koe-tjie So tiny, so simple Maybe somehow I already knew What I can only name now Big soft bodies in the morning sun Slow heavy footsteps, one by one A warm nose reaching for my hand And somehow I could finally stand They look at me without judgment They don't ask me anything They just stay right beside me And sometimes that's enough Cows are my safe place My shelter when it storms Big enough to hide behind Soft enough to keep me warm Cows are my safe place When the whole world gets too loud I don't have to explain a thing I just disappear into the crowd Oh-oh... My safe place... Oh-oh... My cowsome place... When the world gets way too loud And everything moves way too fast I close my eyes for just a second And I know where I can go To the green grass To those big, soft bodies A warm nose against my hand And suddenly I'm fine They're like giant dogs Just... much, much bigger Moooo... And somehow in those quiet eyes The whole world gets a little quieter They don't need to say a word To tell me, "I am here" No questions, no explanations Just quiet company Cows are my safe place My shelter when it storms Big enough to hide behind Soft enough to keep me warm Cows are my safe place When the whole world gets too loud I don't have to explain a thing I just disappear into the crowd Maybe somehow I knew it then Maybe Koe-tjie was more than a word Maybe it was my first little way Of saying where I belonged Here I don't have to be anything Here I don't have to give Here I can simply stay Here I am allowed to live Koe-tjie... My first word. And when the world gets way too loud I know where I can go... Cows are my safe place My comfort, warmth and home And when the world turns dark I know the way back home Cows are my safe place Where I don't have to run I close my eyes, I breathe in slow And I know I'm not alone Cows are my safe place My shelter when it storms Big enough to hide behind Soft enough to keep me warm Cows are my safe place When the whole world gets too loud I don't have to explain a thing I just disappear into the crowd Just let me be... Let me be... With the cows... Maybe that's why I still look for cows... For those quiet eyes, for the soft green grass, for that warm breath against my hand, for the place where everything goes quiet. My first word was Koe-tjie... Maybe I didn't know the word for safety. Maybe I just knew where to find it. With the cows. Moooo... Cowsome.
