Neon Sign

We smile when they walk by. They trip over their shoes. We laugh at all their jokes. They still don’t get the clues. We linger by the lockers. We save them both a seat. We drop a dozen hints. They land right at their feet. How much clearer can we be? It’s not ancient history. We’re waving from the shoreline. While they’re lost out at sea. Do we need a neon sign, flashing bright above our hearts? Do we need to spell it out, before they make a move? Clueless boys, clueless boys. Missing every little line. Do we need a neon sign? Do we need a neon sign? One says, “You look nice today”, then panics and looks away. The other almost asks us out, then has a moment of doubt. We’re standing in the spotlight. They’re staring at the floor. We open every window. They still can’t find the door. How much louder can we sing? We’re not waiting for a ring. Just ask us for a Friday night. Or anything, anything. Anything! Do we need a neon sign, flashing bright above our hearts? Do we need to spell it out, before they make a move? Clueless boys, clueless boys. Missing every little line. Do we need a neon sign? Do we need a neon sign? Girls know, girls know, when the feeling’s there. Boys look, boys look, then pretend they didn’t stare. We pass notes, we make plans. We leave every clue. Maybe we should rent a billboard, saying, “Hey, we like you!” Do we need a neon sign, flashing bright above our hearts? Do we need to spell it out, before they make a move? Clueless boys, clueless boys. Missing every little line. Do we need a neon sign? Do we need a neon sign? Read the signs. Read the signs. We’re not that hard to find. Clueless boys, clueless boys. Do we need a neon sign?
