This is a kind of summary of Shakespeare's 12th Night, from the point of view of Cesario. A Woman who shipwreck on a foreign land, and dressed as a man to gain employment; which caused great confusion and sticky love interest situations. I hope you enjoy it! "If Music be the Food of Love.... Play on" "If music be the food of love, play on" - William Shakespeare (the 12th Night) [Intro] I was torn from the tide, from the thunder and foam Washed up on a dream far away from home I buried my name in the sand that night And rose as a stranger in borrowed light [Pre-Choruses] He calls for love like a wounded king She hides her heart behind her ring They see my face — not what it seems They chase their ghosts, I chase my dreams [Choruses] I am not what I am, but I’m learning to be Half of a shadow, lost out at sea You see a boy with a poet’s eyes But love never asks who wears the disguise [Verse 2: Same as first verse] She swore she’d veil her heart in black Till time itself could bring love back But one soft word, one look from me And she mistook her fate for destiny [Pre-Choruses] Now he burns with a fevered hand Not knowing what he can’t understand I play the part the fates demand In a play I never planned [Chorus] I am not what I am, but I’m longing to find The face I lost in another’s mind They love reflections, I walk the line Between the lie and the divine [Bridge] The fool laughs loud, the lovers cry The sea still whispers, “Who am I?” The heart knows truth the eyes deny In this masquerade of sky [Outro] I am not what I am — but I’m coming alive In the wreck and the wave, I’ll survive If love’s the storm that sets me free Then maybe who I am… is who you see
