[#4 - Silas ballad, about their adventure into the forest and hear a strange noise from inside the hollow of a tree....and a mysterious eye peering back at them. I wrote these for my little grandson, since he likes adventures] 🍀 [Intro: adventurous sounding Irish Music] [Verse 1] Red-haired Silas With his Shire friends trailing Laughing, Humming Through the forest running On their new adventure… [Pre-Chorus] “Do you hear that? Or is it just me?” Heartbeats racing By the old beech tree… [Chorus] That Hollow in the tree Who’s hiding there? Something in the dark One bright eye inside the bark Staring back at me We were just three kids who were not ready For an eye inside a tree! [Verse 2] Silas pressed his cheek to timber Moss was cool and rough and damp Peered in through the knotted hollow Like a spy without a plan Then that flash — a blink A shimmer Brown and gleaming Big and round Every one of them stopped breathing Then they dropped and left the ground [Pre-Chorus] Branches whipping As they tore away Laughing Shouting “Live to tell today!” [Bridge] Silas tugged his father’s sleeve “Come and see You’ll have to believe” Back they walked at evening’s fall Father knelt and whispered low “Easy Friend We’ve come to know…” Out the black bear lumbered From that living wooden home With leaves in whiskers Beech nuts cracking in his jaw Silas’ fear turned straight to wonder Father’s voice was hushed with awe “This old tree feeds and shelters Keeps him safe from winters storm [Outro] Red-haired Silas As the years go by Still remembers How a wild eye changed his dreams When the wind moves through those branches He still smiles so quietly Thinks of his Shire friends And bears And courage And an eye inside a tree [outro: Adventurous Irish music]
