(僕らは、自ら上塗りすることを選んだんだ) Can you still see me through this heavy coat? Transparent feelings, buried beneath the oil-painted city. ──どーもすみません♪ ──────────────────── “Kaleidoscopic Layers” The Heart That Once Was Transparent ★Poem / Lyrics: [Intro] Nibiiro layers, fading into grey. (The kaleidoscopic layers dissolve into grey.) [Verse 1] Back when we still called each other by our names, We all stood side by side — likes and dislikes alike, None of it carried such overwhelming weight. [Pre-Chorus] Back when we tossed our schoolbags at the doorway And ran outside without a second thought, I think those faint little emotions Were the truest feelings we ever had. [Chorus] Kaleidoscopic layers. A heart that once was crystal clear. Back then, the world was still soft, And words like “winning” or “losing” Were only trivial things. Colors slowly bloomed, From the source of emotion itself. Every time I peered inside, It shimmered brilliantly. [Verse 2] Back when we started wearing uniforms, Invisible symbols began floating behind us. Around the time we stopped using first names. [Pre-Chorus 2] Thrown into a reality Where numbers and titles were constantly compared, Those once-clear emotions began to cloud, Spinning further beyond control. [Chorus 2] Kaleidoscopic layers. Superiority slips away so easily, While inferiority stains everything with color. Onto that once-transparent heart, Opaque paint is spilled. Clouding… clouding… With just a single drop, The vivid world around us Was dyed into kaleidoscopic colors. [Bridge — Ink Wash & Oil Paintings] In an ink-wash painting, Beyond the bleeding shades, I could still clearly see your heart. But in this city painted over in heavy oils, We have to peel away the layers of titles. Otherwise, We can no longer even touch one another. Ink cannot hide the gradations of the heart. And yet people Keep layering on opaque coats, Choosing… Not to reveal themselves anymore. [Guitar / Synth Solo] [Chorus 3 — Short] Kaleidoscopic layers. A heart that once was crystal clear. Back then, the world was still soft, And words like “winning” or “losing” Were only trivial things. [Final Chorus / Outro] Nibiiro layers, colorful scars. (Kaleidoscopic layers — vivid scars in brilliant colors.) The ink-wash sky has faded. (The sumi-ink sky has already bled away and vanished.) Layered hearts, fading to grey. (Hearts layered upon hearts slowly fade into grey.) We chose to paint it over. (We chose to cover it ourselves.) Can you still see me through this heavy coat? (Can you still find me beneath this heavy coat?) Transparent feelings, buried beneath the oil-painted city. (Those transparent emotions are buried beneath the city of oil paint.) But somewhere beneath the layers, the water still remembers the light. (Even so, deep beneath the layers, the water still remembers the light.) [Ending] Nibiiro layers… painted over, painted over. (Kaleidoscopic layers… painted over again and again.) ★Liner Notes: Lately, I’ve found myself strangely sensitive to the phrase “something without a name.” Nameless emotions. Nameless pain. Nameless stories. It’s not that I want to deny those expressions entirely. But they’ve started to feel too convenient. Blur the outlines, Make them apply to anyone, Process the emotions so no one gets hurt. It’s modern. Efficient. Probably even kind. But I remember the days when we still called each other by name. Back when love and hate weren’t so enormous yet. Back when we could throw down our schoolbags and run outside. In this poem, the “transparent heart” gradually gains more and more layers through numbers, titles, comparisons, and hierarchies. It isn’t malice. It’s self-defense. A kind of coating necessary to survive in society. That’s why this song isn’t trying to condemn a “tainted world.” Rather, it depicts how we ourselves chose to paint over our hearts. And yet, I still cannot forget those moments when, like an ink-wash painting bleeding softly outward, I could truly see the heart on the other side. That’s why, in the world of this poem, things are given proper names. Honestly, it’s probably a terribly troublesome piece of work. But beyond all those layers, I wanted to truly touch someone’s heart. ★Postscript: If you love someone, then say “I love you.” If you’ve fallen in love, then say “I’ve fallen in love.” And if you simply like someone… Then say “I like you.” In this poem, I intentionally removed that evasive kindness that blurs every outline. Maybe we live in an age now where ambiguity itself is considered kindness — where expression is softened so no one gets hurt. But to me, there’s a difference between “bleeding softly” and “concealing the truth.” The blur of an ink-wash painting still carries genuine emotion. But empty blank space alone cannot always let people touch one another. That’s why, in this song, I chose to say things by name. If it’s love, then “love.” If it hurts, then “it hurts.” Even while layering on opaque coats, I wanted the emotions underneath to remain as honest as possible. Too much information? Well then… …my apologies ♪
