Always on the Road

[Verse 1] Mud on the fender Gas in the tank One hand on the wheel One hand on the bank Mama says call me When you get home I say I’m trying But I’m always on the road [Pre-Chorus] Gotta head south Then turn back west Sleep in my shirt At the truck-stop rest If you hear my name It’s from a payphone tone Yeah, I’m trying to stay But I’m always on the road [Chorus] Always on the road Always on the road Leave the porch light on I might make it home Always on the road Always on the road If you miss me now I’m still your rolling stone [Verse 2] County line diner Paper cup coffee Cash in my pocket Ain’t much left of me Last week’s sunset Still on my coat Every town knows I’m always on the road [Pre-Chorus] Gotta head north Past the red barn fence Chasing one more mile That I ain’t spent If I come back I’ll come back slow But tonight I’m gone Yeah, I’m always on the road [Chorus] Always on the road Always on the road Leave the porch light on I might make it home Always on the road Always on the road If you miss me now I’m still your rolling stone [Bridge] I keep your photo Beside the dash Folded up map And a little brass If I ever stop I’ll let you know Till then, baby I’m always on the road [Chorus] Always on the road Always on the road Leave the porch light on I might make it home Always on the road Always on the road If you miss me now I’m still your rolling stone
