I remember the days, Back when I was young; Finding ways to get in trouble, Mom was so high-strung; We had to struggle, For every single cent; Mom and dad broke up, So momma paid the rent; And I was such an asshole, I thought life wasn't fair; I got that there were problems, But I didn't fuckin' care; It took me years to pull, My head outta my ass; Started doing what I could, And stopped ditchin' class; And then I went to college, Tried to turn my life around; Workin' at the computer lab, Tryin' to make up ground; Met a woman I could love, And had us three whole years; Til she slept with someone else, And left me, still in tears. My little sis went through, Her own situation with drugs; Had two babies, one died, Started hangin' out with thugs; Meanwhile, Mom kept workin, A buncha hard-ass jobs; From soldering electronics, To makin' movie bombs; Time went on, we went downhill; Drifted farther apart, Did some time for a dumb-ass crime, And kinda lost my spark; Working in the call center, Draining my brain away; Little did I know my health, Was another price I'd pay; Legs blew up like balloons; I took a fall on the road; Girlfriend I had at the time, Seemed less than up to code; We celebrated a pregnancy, But we were out of luck; Poor girl miscarried, So for both of us, it sucked; She went home across the states, Got stuck way down south; Had to trade her plane fare home, To get her DUI'd daddy out; Then she got diagnosed, With the big ol' scary C; And after a couple months, She never made it back to me. I went thru my ups and downs, My share of heartbreak; But there's one thing I ain't, And that one thing is fake; I been through the wringer, And lived to tell the tale; Moral of the story is, Sometimes it's okay to fail; Just don't stay an asshole, When you try to make your way; And don't let the world, Beat you down every day; Cause life's enough, Of a shitstorm without; Opening your mouth, And removing all doubt.
