Verse 1 Driving on the back streets that I used to know so well Looking at the landmarks with their stories to tell The corner where we used to stand to catch the school bus It hasn't changed, its still the same a meeting place for us Verse 2 And there’s the shop we would visit almost every week Where mum would put the food on tick so we all could eat The friendly grocer would always greet us and call us all by name But he has gone now and the shop fronts not the same Pre Chorus The street names are all the same as they were back then Gillies Street and Church Road, we knew from end to end Chorus The faces have all changed with time But I still see my friends Playing in their front yards The way we all did back then The street lamps still light the corners That we used to walk each day Now others trace our footprints To find their own way Verse 3 I wonder if they will travel back to these roads that they once knew And remember all the landmarks that watched them as they grew And maybe just like me, they'll see the past they shared With friends and family, and a community that cared Pre Chorus The street names are all the same as they were back then Gillies Street and Church Road, we knew from end to end Chorus The faces have all changed with time But I still see my friends Playing in their front yards The way we all did back then The street lamps still light the corners That we used to walk each day Now others trace our footprints To find their own way Outro These old back streets hold a lot of memories Of a time that was quieter than today Where every corner has a story to tell And those memories never fade away
