--- Second song on the "album" combining Country and EDM. For this song I wanted to explore the foundation of the songs that built the artist, going back to the classic country songs. Wanted to make it about 90% country and 10% EDM. I think it's closer to 95% country, but that's fine. I did like the "Radio Vocals" that make a couple of appearances. Worked out nicely and gave the song a bit more texture. The new persona is working fine too. Looking forward to playing around with more combos. Next song will try and blend in some Tango elements into it too. :-) ~David --- [Musical Introduction] [Warm vinyl crackle, distant AM radio tone] [Soft acoustic guitar, slow pulsing synth pad underneath] [Verse 1] There was a radio on the kitchen sill Always humming like a prayer Mama sang harmony to Patsy Cline While runnin' fingers through her hair Johnny Cash taught me truth don’t bend Even when your hands still shake Loretta showed me a woman’s voice Ain’t something you ask permission to make [Pre-Chorus] Those songs didn’t glitter They didn’t lie They embraced raw feelings They made me laugh and cry [Chorus] These are my roots and bones Every word I know Every scar I wear Was handed down in a three-minute song From voices that didn’t scare Of loving hard, of standing alone Of paying every due Yeah, the beat might change But the truth remains My sound was built on you [Verse 2] Static nights and Sunday drives Hands drumming on the wheel George Jones taught me heartbreak Ain’t pretty—but it’s real I learned silence from Merle Haggard Learned grace from worn-out chords Those stories raised me better Than silver spoons or open doors [Pre-Chorus] I didn’t grow up chasing fame I grew up chasing feeling Trying to name the ache I knew I’d always be dealing [Musical Interlude] [Subtle EDM pulse fades in, heartbeat tempo] [Low synth bass swelling, echoes of steel guitar] [Chorus] These are my roots and bones The ground I stand upon When the lights get blinding bright And I don’t know where I’m from If I ever lose my way If the noise feels overgrown I go back to the truth That raised this voice That built these roots and bones [Verse 3] Now I’m dancing on a stage With ghosts in every chord Old souls riding shotgun Every time I step onstage and roar I dress it up in lights and drums Let the bassline shake the room But every song I’ll ever sing Still smells like dust and perfume [Bridge] I don’t borrow their stories I carry them on my skin Every drop I chase tomorrow Started way back then [Musical Interlude] [Beat drops out → vocal echo] [Crowd-like hum fades in, restrained but emotional] [Final Chorus] These are my roots and bones They don’t fade with time They hold me up when I’m breaking down They keep me honest in the shine I’ll take the old roads with me Wherever the future roams No matter how far I run I’m never done With my roots and bones [Lyrical Outro] [Radio-filtered vocal, intimate] They taught me how to feel Before I learned how to fly [Musical Ending] [Acoustic guitar fades, synth pad resolves] [Vinyl crackle returns, then silence]
