[instrumental] Another day chalked off the list Counting down towards Christmas I’ve spent all day fending off requirements That keep my mind body and spirit In flex which I guess is the opposite of rest Another day closer to the weekend When maybe I’ll get to sleep in But then other routines fill my head And I’m reminded of what’s ahead Endless routines Endless things That keep me striving I’m like a machine And my gears are grinding That’s when I’m reminded of the days When I used to sit in the house of worship For hours on end And my routines were paused For more than a few minutes [refrain] I’m reminded of when God tells Moses he will send his Angel ahead with the Israelites To the Promise land Because of their rebellion His personal presence would not be present But Moses interceded and said If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here Even though God promised victories in battle And to drive out other kingdoms Moses knew the root of their issues Wasn’t a lack of success Or even their destination It was finding God’s personal Presence in their midst A pillar of cloud Blocking the tent of meeting When Moses would meet to talk with God Face to face As one speaks to a friend Encounters like that being what fuels Moses’ desire to keep the routine Constant Even if they reach their promise land With an Angel besides them It isn’t enough to substitute for God Who after listening to Moses said He would go with him and give him rest Rest Noting that he didn’t promise to erase all Tribulations But did promise to provide at least some relief Like a necessary refueling For a car in a race So that it can continue to drive ahead [refrain] Another day chalked off the list Counting down towards Christmas I have a long day ahead of me And a long list of things to accomplish That is no doubt daunting and dangerous But instead of immediately eating my breakfast And running out of the door With my fists clenched Like I so often do, instead I’ll remember to sit Close my door And rest In God’s presence I remember that the promise that he gave to Moses in the wilderness Is a Yes and Amen Since I’m in Christ For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God. God made a promise to go with us and give us rest. I’m also reminded of the request Moses made After getting to know God by spending time with him It’s like it came across the midnight clear When he asked God to show him his glory then. God couldn’t show him his face, Due to the fact that no one may do so and live But he did let all of his goodness pass by And proclaim his name The Lord Ans says he will have mercy on whom he will have mercy And compassion on whom he will have compassion God also does something interesting He lets Moses see his back as he passes With Moses shielded in a rock crevice I’m not sure what that means But maybe When we are following someone That’s what we see, their back And We are reminded that God has our back when we are following him So God Thank you And if I’m not following you in my life’s routine Or in the direction I’m headed Then please, in your mercy, redirect me Make it clear to me as a full moon on a clear midnight sky If your not where I’m at Then I don’t want to be here either Yeah I don’t deserve your grace But that’s the definition of it Thank you God Another day checked off the list And it’s another day I get to spend with you at the center of it [instrumental]
