Static on the Radio

V6

Day drinking, day sleeping. Stuck in the spin in my own head. I’m slacking around and I can’t get out of bed. Empty bottles on the floor by the door. Sun sneaking in through the blinds. Nothing but static on the radio and I’m losing track of time. I’m sorry, Mama, I can’t seem to do it. Keep saying I’ll fix it, but I run right through it. “I’ll be better in the morning”. Yeah, I’ve said that line before Static on the radio, drowning out the voice that tells me go. Yeah, I’ve been good at keeping it together on the outside. Whiskey on the rocks, laughing with the crowd. But I’m shaking when the lights go down. Got a ride from a stranger, I wasn’t myself at all. I’d rather be in that bar I’ve known. Than face this quiet on my own Same stool, same corner. Same song humming in my brain. Bartender asks if I’m doing okay. I just smile and say “I’m fine” again. But this heart’s been running on fumes. And this glass keeps filling the room. I’m sorry, Mama, I’m still trying to prove it. Swear I’ll turn it around, just don’t know how to move it. “I’ll be better in the morning”. Yeah, I’m still believing that Static on the radio, drowning out the voice that tells me go. Yeah, I’ve been good at keeping it together on the outside. Whiskey on the rocks, laughing with the crowd. But I’m shaking when the lights go down. Got a ride from a stranger, I wasn’t myself at all. I’d rather be in that bar I’ve known. Than face this quiet on my own One of these nights I’ll leave that bar light fading. Find a road that leads me home instead. Call you up and tell you I made it. Feet on the floor, clear in the head. But ’til I’m strong enough to let it go. I’m stuck here with the static on the radio... Static on the radio
