[Verse] I think that people stopped reading a while ago. You can hear it in how they talk, empty and so. They can name every single Car-Dash-Ian. But they don’t seem to see this whole mess we in. Oh, I think they’re putting something in the corn syrup. They’d pump it straight from their screens if they could. Everybody’s high on fructose and low on IQ. Sometime I stay inside all day because I don’t know what to do. They sit in the driveway, engine running, scrolling. Headlights on garage doors, nobody going anywhere. The neighbor’s kid knows the lyrics to every advertisement. but can’t spell his own fuckin' last name. [Chorus] We’re all chewing on the same sweet static, tongue gone numb, eyes gone wide. Phantom buzz in the bloodstream, can’t tell the hunger from the high. Turn the lights down, let the feed run, we’ll sleep when the signal dies. [Verse] I opened the window yesterday. The air smelled like hot plastic and lawn chemical. A drone flew over, delivering someone’s dinner. Buzzin' like a mosquito with a credit card. The fridge light is the brightest thing in the house. I stare at the leftovers, same as last night. The TV flickers even when it’s off— Dead propoganda bleeding through the black. I tried talking to the mailman. He scanned my package, asked if I wanted insurance. I said the world’s already on fire. He nodded, handed me a coupon for flame-retardant socks. At night the streetlights hum in minor key. Every porch has a ring camera blinking red. We’re all on somebody’s feed now, background people in a stranger’s head. [Chorus] We’re all chewing on the same sweet static, tongue gone numb, eyes gone wide. Phantom buzz in the bloodstream, can’t tell the hunger from the high. Turn the lights down, let the feed run, we’ll sleep when the signal dies. [Verse] I keep a notebook under the couch. Pages blank except for one line: “Remember when quiet was free?” The pen ran dry months ago. Sometimes I stand in the shower until the hot water quits. Steam fills the mirror, wipes me out. When I step out, the phone’s already glowing— missed notification, battery at four percent. I don’t answer. I just watch the screen die. Welcom to CostCO, I love you.
