[Intro] Rain on the window… shots in the distance… somebody mama waking up tonight. [Verse 1] Gunshots in the rain, couldn’t tell what was thunder, everybody hit the floor, kids hiding under covers. Ain’t no action movie when the windows start shaking, just a neighborhood tired of the same hearts breaking. I was outside too much, trying to prove I was hard, but the hardest thing now is admitting I was scarred. Every loud sound made my whole chest lock, PTSD wearing Air Force Ones on the block. I seen boys turn cold because warm got them hurt, seen blood mix red with the Carolina dirt. Seen a white sheet cover what used to be laughter, then the same damn block post memes right after. That’s the sickness of survival, we joke when we dying, say “it is what it is” while our insides crying. I don’t want my son learning courage from a trigger, I want him bigger than the pain that made me bitter. [Hook] Gunshots in the rain, Lord, they sound like drums, another young soul running where the darkness comes. I got mud on my heart, I got tears in my chain, I still hear them gunshots in the rain. Ohhh, let the blues guitar bleed, pray for every youngin who ain’t get what he need. I got pain in my blood, I got ghosts in my brain, I still hear them gunshots in the rain. [Verse 2] Some nights I was the danger, some nights I was scared, some nights I acted like I ain’t even cared. Truth is, I cared too much, so I buried it deep, then woke up with demons standing over my sleep. The streets teach violence before they teach healing, teach you how to mask every human feeling. You call it savage, I call it untreated, a generation bleeding and nobody competing. I ain’t saying I’m innocent, I’m saying I’m alive, and that alone feel strange when your friends didn’t survive. Everybody got a candle, everybody got a shirt, everybody got a hashtag, nobody got less hurt. We need fathers, we need therapy, we need doors open, need jobs paying right, not just cells closing. Need love with backbone, need truth with bass, need a way to leave the block without leaving our face. [Bridge – harmonies] Rain keep falling, names keep calling, Lord, I’m trying, but I’m still crawling. Bass keep knocking, graves keep talking, I hear footsteps when I’m sleepwalking. [Final Hook] Gunshots in the rain, Lord, they sound like drums, another young soul running where the darkness comes. [Outro] Boom… boom… Thunder or shots, nobody know. That’s the damn problem.
