[Intro] [Verse 1] We danced in the barn when the corn grew high under that same old Carolina sky the fiddle player played us a slow sweet tune and we swayed all night 'neath a silver moon [Chorus] Shine on, shine on, silver moon of Caroline light the road that used to be hers and mine she's gone tonight and the fields lie bare so shine your light on the empty air [Verse 2] Now the lamp burns low and the barn stands still there's a cold wind comin' over Hawkins hill I wore out my boots on this lonesome floor but she ain't comin' back through that old screen door [Chorus] Shine on, shine on, silver moon of Caroline light the road that used to be hers and mine she's gone tonight and the fields lie bare so shine your light on the empty air [Banjo Breakdown] [Verse 3] Well I'll dry these eyes and I'll roll on home a man can't grieve by a field alone I'll plant the corn and I'll mend the line under the SILVER MOON of Caroline [Final Chorus] Shine ON, shine ON, silver moon of Caroline light the road that used to be hers and mine she's gone for good but the stars still shine so shine your light on this heart of mine [Outro] shine on... silver moon... of Caroline
