[Verse 1, Female voice] I just saw a maniac, maniac, maniac Wild, and tearing his hair Jumping like a jumpin’ jack, jumpin’ jack, jumpin’ jack Child, you should have been there Laughed so loud I thought that I would cave in When I heard that, silly, daffy dilly (Ha ha, imagine that! What's that jumpin’ jack maniac, wildman, tearing his hair l, silly, daffy dilly ravin’? - what's he sayin'? What's he sayin') [Break] [Chorus, Male Voice] Five foot two, eyes of blue But oh! what those five foot could do Has anybody seen my girl? Turned up nose, turned down hose Flapper, yes sir! one of those Has anybody seen my girl? Now if you run into a five foot two Covered with fur Diamond rings and all those things Butcha’ life it isn’t her But could she love could she woo? Could she, could she, could she coo? Has anybody seen my girl? [Verse 2, Female voice] Love made him a lunatic, lunatic, lunatic Gee! he hollered and cried Like a monkey on a stick, on a stick, on a stick Gee! he hollered and cried Like a monkey on a stick, on a stick, on a stick He was fit to be tied When we asked him for his wife’s description He just answered all of us with this conniption (Oh yeah, I can see that, Turned him into a lunatic, fit to be tied Like a monkey on a stick. So I see why he hollers and cries, he hollers and cries) [Chorus] [Male Voice] Five foot two, eyes of blue But oh! what those five foot could do Has anybody seen my girl? Turned up nose, turned down hose Flapper, yes sir! one of those Has anybody seen my girl? Now if you run into a five foot two Covered with fur Diamond rings and all those things Butcha’ life it isn’t her But could she love could she woo? Could she, could she, could she coo? Has anybody seen my girl? (Could she, could she, could she coo? Could she, could she, could she coo? Could she, could she, could she coo?) [Final Chorus, Male] Five foot two, eyes of blue But oh! what those five foot could do Has anybody seen my girl? Turned up nose, turned down hose Flapper, yes sir! one of those But could she love could she woo? Could she, could she, could she coo? Has anybody seen my girl? Has anybody seen my girl? Has anybody seen my girl? Now how about that? "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue (Has Anybody Seen My Girl?)" is a classic American popular song that became a definitive hit in the "Roaring Twenties" and famously associated with the "flapper" era, you know; a missing girl that's "five foot two" with "eyes of blue" and "turned-down hose". Yeah that's a flapper! Hey, can we cut the music! I'm trying to talk here. Nobody wants to hear talk. Anyway, although "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue" was published in 1925 with lyrics by Sam M. Lewis and Joseph Young, the archives credit Jack Mahoney with writing a version of the song as early as nineteen fourteen. And those lyrics are essentially identical as the ones we know today - But! there is one major difference; the latter one published in nineteen twenty five by the duo lyricists Sam M. Lewis & Joseph Young added the verses about a "maniac" plus the specific "flapper" references, and that's what really cemented it as a Jazz Age anthem! The song entered the public domain back in January of twenty twenty one And that's why you're hearing it now, here on Public Domain Radio.
