Desolate Sea

Verse 1 In a garden of bones where the salt winds play, Lives a brother who lost his name one day, He waters the thorns with a cracked tin cup, But the flowers forget to be waking up. Verse 2 There’s a rabbit with shoes and a crooked gold crown, And a fish in a jar who refuses to drown, A violin bug with one broken string, Who hums half a tune he can’t quite sing. Chorus Oh, the menagerie sighs when the tide comes near, Whispers secrets no one should hear, They dance for the brother with the hollow eyes, Under paper moons in tattered skies. Verse 3 A clockwork bird with a rusted heart Ticks his sorrow slowly apart, While a cat made of smoke curls into his sleeve, Purring soft, “It’s alright to grieve.” Bridge He smiles just once when the moon hangs low, And the lantern moths begin to glow, For the strange little souls who never could flee Stay with the brother by the desolate sea. Final Chorus Oh, the menagerie sleeps when the cold winds roam, For sorrow and wonder have made their home, In the garden where lost things always will be, With the sad, sad brother by the desolate sea.
