[Vers 1] O you who enter this tavern's door, Let your heart find peace forevermore. Enjoy life's pleasures, but not too wild, For moderation is wisdom's child. Our innkeeper reigns in his domain, His food and drink are without disdain. Let music play and joy prevail, But guard against drunkenness' travail. [vers 2] Drink as you can, pay what you owe, For credit here, we do not bestow. He who never dared, ne'er won great prize, But let not courage drown 'fore your eyes. To benefit and please, keep ever in sight, For life is brief, and art a long delight. Live well, be merry, but duty mind, Lest your life end as a tale unkind. [end]
