[Verse 1] We left the highway where the country roads begin, Through roads that only memory knows. The trees leaned close like they remembered me. My heart raced before my mind could speak. I laughed, "This is it... This is the way. I'll show you the house where I used to live." She looked at me, Half smiling, Half searching. "Why?" "Why do you want to go back there?" [Pre-Chorus] The question stayed... Long after the words were gone. [Chorus] Take me beyond the bridge, Beyond the rooms that built my name. Beyond the echoes I still carry, Beyond the maps that all became Stories I could never live again. Take me beyond the bridge... If home is changing without me, Who am I becoming? [Verse 2] I ran through the front door Like I still belonged there, Only to remember... I don't live here anymore. The strangers smiled Like they'd been expecting me. "Come in. See what became of it." The brick beneath the old wood stove Still rested where my father laid it. The bathroom used to be a bedroom. The narrow staircase had become Wide enough for another lifetime. Upstairs... One room was gone. A library stood where memory had slept. Beside it, A room filled with laughter That hadn't happened yet. [Verse 3] I asked my father, "Did we leave anything behind?" He looked around the quiet walls. "No... I don't think we did." We stood together On a muddy path. Then walked back inside. Then walked back out. Everything changed. [Chorus] Take me beyond the bridge, Where yesterday can finally breathe. Beyond the weight of borrowed stories, Beyond the things I couldn't leave. If every house becomes a memory, And every memory learns to fade... Take me beyond the bridge. [Bridge] Black robes on the porch. Black robes... Then white robes... Up and down the road. Everywhere I turned... Men in robes. Another prayer. Another ritual. Another reminder... Of a world I'd already left. A road I used to ride On a bicycle too small For questions this big. Smoke climbed into the morning. Prayers drifted through the trees. The voices felt familiar... Until they didn't. A man in white Carried a golden vessel, Its smoke rising with every step. We followed him Across the narrow bridge. Halfway over... He cast it into the water. "That's littering!" The stream stayed clear. The smoke disappeared. Nobody answered. [Instrumental] [Verse 4] The priests were gone. We climbed the hill, Pushed through the brush, And found a town That wasn't on any map I'd ever known. The first door stood open. Warm light. Voices. The smell of food. Then... I saw him. Black hat. Black coat. Copper hair beneath the brim. A smile stretched wider than it should. Too many teeth. He never spoke. He only smiled. Something inside me knew. Before thought. Before reason. Before proof. [Final Chorus] Take me beyond the bridge, Where every certainty is tried. Where fear and wisdom wear the same face, And truth has nowhere left to hide. Take me beyond the bridge... Beyond the life I thought was mine... [Outro] I was already speaking before I understood why. My father looked at me. "Why are you being so mean?" I never looked away. "Because... he's planning to attack us." He kept smiling. ... Then I woke… still seeing him smile.
